  1. When trying to use the Link cable I get this terrible ghosting in the background that blurs everything. If I switch back to AirLink the ghosting goes away. I have the pixel density set to 1.3 in the Oculus app and also in the Oculus Tray Tool. The HUD shows the correct pixel density. I actually think that using a pixel density of 1.3 in the app and the tray tool, I am starting to get a little better imaging (still on the ground; haven't flown anywhere). At 72Hz in the Oculus app I cannot go any higher than 1.3. Assuming that the Oculus app and the tray tool shlould match for pixel density, I would have to change the refresh rate in the Oculus app to 80Hz or 90Hz to get a higher density. What do you think I should do next? At this point the cockpit of myh Cessna 172 G1000 is better than it's ever been but I would love to make things even better. I am just such a novice with tuning MSFS and the headset that I am afraid to change anything without advice from someone who knows better than me what to do. The irony is that I am a retired computer specialist from a major corporation :-).
  2. What about the Quest Link settings in the Oculus Tray Tool? What settings do you use there? Also, Nvidia Control Program settings? Do you have modifications or do you use all defaults there?
  3. OK, to be clear, are we talking about changing the pixel density in the Oculus Tray Tool vs the render scale in the sim? Also, I will start trying to use the link cable, can you give advice as to what settings to use in the Oculus Tray Tool in the "Quest Link" section? Thanks again ..... Rob P.S. One other thing: What about using the Open XR Toolkit with the Quest 2? Should I skip trhying to use that for now?
  4. I thought I should say that most of my testing is just done sitting in the cockpit on the end of the runway. I say that because the problem I have mostly initially been trying to solve, unreadability of the cockpit controls, occurs that way. To be honest, I have hardly ever actually flown because I have been frustrated that I can barely read anything in the cockpit. Is that a bad way to test? I have also, for the purpose of this testing with you, eliminated all overclocking of my CPU and GPU and turned off hyperthreading and virtualization in my BIOS. I am also bringing up MSFS with no addons at all, just native MSFS. I have tried to set up everything according to the specifications you gave me above. Using 72Hz and 1.0 render quality in the Oculus as specified by you, I don't have the issue with moving my head fast from side to side in the AirLink home page. When I switch to VR and display the pixel density, it shows 1.00, 1.00. However, at 72Hz and 1.0 in the Oculus app and in-sim render resolution of 100%, everything is very grainy.
  5. - When using airlink *before* you use MSFS (e.g. at the desktop home screen), and you turn your head quickly side to side, do you need artifacts and/or black areas that take a while to fill in? (YES) - When in MSFS, when you move your head quickly - do you see artifacts or black areas? (NO) - Do you have anti-aliasing on and set to the highest level? (TAA - NOT SURE WHICH LEVEL YOU MEAN) - Do you have render resolution set to at least 100? (100) - If you are using SU10 beta, have you tried using DLSS? (YES - FRAME RATE GOES UP BUT CAN'T READ ANYTHING IN COCKPIT) On the OTT Render HUD display, the App Missed Submit Count is going up very fast. The CPU render time is like 16-20ms and the GPU render time is around 20-25ms. These seem like really high numbers but I don't know what to do about them.
  6. That's how I have it. With a dedicated WiFi 6 router just for this usage. I am setting things up now try to get the answers to your questions.

Let me back up a second: In order to activate AirLink I have to have the Oculus app open on the PC. What refresh rate and render resolution should I set in the Oculus desktop app in order to answer your questions?
  8. If by Native app you mean an app installed on the Quest itself, then yes, clarity and performance are very good, even if I bump up the graphics resolution with Sidequest.
  9. Can you give me some more detail on that? What am I looking for and what would be the correct value(s)? Thanks.
  10. Other games using AirLink seem to be ok. They are not crystal clear but they are very clear compared to MSFS.
  11. Hi everyone. Let me start by saying that I realize that tuning a system for the best experience involves a lot of trial and error and especially PATIENCE. However, there are also a lot of moving parts to getting good VR from MSFS and without a degree of knowledge, all the patience and trial and error in the world won't necessarily get you what you want. I have had MSFS since it came out and I have a Quest 2. You can see from my signature that my PC specs are very good. I have watched so many videos on how to set up my system for good performance and visuals and nothing seems to work. I have tried using the Link cable, I have tried using AirLink, I have tried using Virtual Desktop. But no matter what I do I never can read the cockpit dash very well (mind you I have Reloptix prescription lenses) and the whole image seems to always be shimmering (if that's the right word), in other words never standing still like a normal image. I have followed Pie in the Sky videos on setting up the Quest 2 and I have followed VRF Flight SIm Guy videos on setting it up and I have followed videos on using Virtual Desktop to set it up. I watch the videos and the images in the videos look so nice, but then my images look terrible. I have played with the Oculus app settings, Oculus Tray Tool settings, Open XR Toolkit settings, Oculus Debug Tool settings, and even some registry settings that I read about, but nothing is giving me an experience I can tolerate. The image is so disappointing before I even leave the ground with the plane. I no longer know where to turn to get guidance on how to set up my system to get the best possible performance from my system using the Quest 2 and MSFS. I have a dedicated WiFi 6 router which the Quest 2 connects to wirelessly for AirLink or Virtual Desktop. I also have a certified cable if I want to use it. I know my rambling has not led to actually asking a spcific question, I am just reaching out to the MSFS VR community with a call for help. At this point I feel like giving up with MSFS since I don't want to use it in 2D mode. I have the Honeycomb yoke and throttle quadrant and some nice rudder pedals. I really thought it wpould be a blast to learn to fly in the sim (not trhying to become a real pilot) and see the world through VR and a plane. I don't expect sterling visuals or performance but I won't be able to enjoy this at all if I can't even get visuals as good as the videos I am watching on YouTube. I thought about posting this in Discord buy could not figure out what channel to put it in and thought the responses might be too involved to be given to me as Discord messages. I will tell you that I would even be willing to pay someone for their time who could work with me to help me get a good setup that I can enjoy, knowing it will never be perfect. I anxiously await responses........... Thanks in advance for anyone willing to take the time with me ............. Rob
  12. Thanks for your help. By following Varjo instructions to do some uninstalls and reinstalls I now get an image when I press the VR keys defined for that. But the image seems to be jumping all over the place. I am so new to the Aero I am, not sure what to check. Does eye tracking have anything to do with it? Any help greatly appreciated. After spending the money on the Aero, two base stations, and two controllers, it would be nice if I could enjoy MSFS in the headset. Rob
  13. Hi all. I am just starting to set up my new Varjo Aero to use with MSFS. I have a couple of questions: 1. Does the headset/Varjo Base support DX12 yet for VR? 2. When using the headset for MSFS, should Open VR and Open XR be turned on in Varjo Base? If not, what configuration should be used? Thanks, Rob
  14. Hi folks. I stepped away from MSFS for a couple of months due to personal issues going on. Now I have moved and I just finished setting up my computers again. I have brought MSFS up to date and updated all add-ons that indicated they were needed. Today my questions just pertain to wind. 1. If I set up a flight and set the weather preset to clear skies, what does that mean about wind? Will there be any? Is there a way I can configure wind or is it just built into the sim in some way I can't control? 2. How do I see what the wind speed is and from what direction? At the moment I am playing with the TBM930 but the question is meant to be a general one. Thanks ........... Rob
  15. I had that happen and it turned out to be the Wingman mods for the C152 and C172. Once I pulled them out it came back.
  16. Hi all. I am using the SU9 beta. I am also using AIG. I have noticed that there are no airport workers when I start a new session. The pushback truck will come up to the plane with no person there. I don't see any people walking around the airport and I have the airport workers setting set to 100%. Can anyone explain what I might have wrong that there are no workers at the airport? Thanks.
  17. I am wondering what the best addon(s) are for ground traffic at the airport. And are they better than the default ground traffic? Thanks, Rob
  18. Thanks for the reply. It has turned out to be some screwy monitor image issue that has worked itself out. I had the problem with both PSXT and Realtraffic. I had to click in the lower right of the main monitor screen image for each one to get it back. Not sure exactly what the issue was but its resolved now without having to revert any software 🙂
  19. Topic says it. Suddenly when I start the .bat file, I get an icon on the bottom of the screen but no matter what I do I cannot get the actual app screen to appear. Clicking the icon at the bottom of the screen doesn't do it, going into task manager and using the 'switch to' option doesn't do it. I was not having this problem until recently. However, two things have changed: firstly I am using the latest Beta of the PSXT code. Secondly, I joined the Windows 11 insider program and I am running the latest 'not yet released' version of Windows 11. Not sure whether to get out of the Windows 11 insider program or revert to a non beta version of PSXT, or something else. Help please..... thanks ..... Rob
  20. I have a full running AIG system. I also have a full running PSXT/Real Traffic system using the AIG database. I have been going back and forth between those two systems trying to figure out which I like more I like that AIG incorporates the boarding ramps attached to the planes (mostly). But I also like that PSXT/Real Traffic gives more real time results. Graphically I can easily see that neither is perfect, and I am not trying to start discussion of whether the faults are the apps or the sim. I realize that both systems have to rely on the sim for things that don't always work as they should. So I am soliciting opinions of which you like more and why. Not looking for a deep dive into either system, that's already been done. Just a high level survey of which system you like having more on your system, and why. Thanks everyone.
  21. Two more questions (don't want to start too many threads): First, I notice when actually using the full AIG product, the boarding ramps at gates seem to be active, moving, and attached to planes at the gate. I don't see that when using PSXT and RT and the AIG database. Is that observation correct? If so, any plans to make the ramps more active? Of maybe direct me to a third party app that automates the ramps? Second, I notice when using the PSXT system, ground vehicles are driving under planes and planes are passing right over trucks. I am assuming that it's because the they don't know each other are there. How do you folks set up ground vehicles so that this doesn't happen?
  22. I stand corrected and apologize. I don't know how I could have missed such an obvious included instruction. Going too fast through it I guess I love the entire system and am thrilled to have it all working now :-).
  23. I have the AIG data in the Community folder but the Community folder is not in the default location. It appears that I have the parameters set correctly for the liveries to be found. Don't understand why I have to check the autoscan for addon airports box though since I have only default airports. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since you were nice enough to respond to me, I have another question, regarding the LEARNER tool. I don't understand how it works. I open Real Traffic and open the Learner tool. I enter an ICAO code for an airport. But the Real Traffic screen never does anything and all I ever get on the Learner screen is a message every minute that no live data was available in the last minute. How do you get the learner tool to work? This is what my log looks like when I start the learner: Fri Mar 11 17:42:22 2022 (utc) Learner version 9.1 ********************************** parameters ********************************** from C:\Users\rgold\AppData\Roaming\Learner\parameters.xml MAIN_WINDOW_X=238 MAIN_WINDOW_Y=29 REMOVE_FALSE_THRESHOLD=50 PROGRAM_VERSION=9.1 AIRPORT= LIGHT_AIRCRAFT=true HELICOPTERS=true DURATION_MINUTES=45 ******************************************************************************** SERVER=false CLIENT=false LIVERIES_FOLDER=liveries STOCK_AIRPORTS_FOLDER=stock_airports ADDON_AIRPORTS_FOLDER=addon_airports Read from data\dbase.xml : 2444 ICAO aircraft types of which 93 heavies, 420 middles, 180 helicopters and 9 gliders 45 similar type rules 586 types with wingspan information average half wingspans: heavy 25.9m, middle 11.8m, light 5.8m, heli 6.0m 6370 ICAO Airline codes, 39 PVT codes and 89 GOV codes 26679 dbase records AIRPORT= Data provider connected Traffic Reader connected QNH Reader connected ? No QNH found in {"ICAO": "","QNH": 1013, "METAR": "UNKN 000000", "NAME": "UNKNOWN", "IATA": "","DISTNM": 0} No traffic at all in this region? What am I doing wrong? LATEST UPDATE: NEVER MIND. STUPID ERROR - AFTER TYPING IN ICAO AIRPORT CODES, I DID NOT HIT ENTER TO TRIGGER IT. DIDN'T SEE ANY INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT DOING THAT. ALL IS WELL NOW LOL.
  24. Hi all. So I have AIG fully installed and it is operational. I have installed PSXT and Real Traffic (including subscription). So I am trying to edit the parameters.xml file in PSXT to use the AIG stuff. Some background info: MSFS is installed on my F: drive and my Community folder is on my E: drive This is a section of what I have right now in the parameters.xml file for PSXT: <parameters> <parameter name="COLLISION_USER_GND" value="true" /> <parameter name="MAIN_WINDOW_X" value="400" /> <parameter name="MAIN_WINDOW_Y" value="20" /> <parameter name="SNAPSHOT_MINUTES" value="30" /> <parameter name="DEFAULT_PERCENTAGE_SMALL" value="75" /> <parameter name="DEFAULT_PERCENTAGE_MEDIUM" value="50" /> <parameter name="DEFAULT_PERCENTAGE_LARGE" value="35" /> <parameter name="BORDER_SMALL_MEDIUM" value="20" /> <parameter name="BORDER_MEDIUM_LARGE" value="100" /> <parameter name="REMOVE_FALSE_THRESHOLD" value="50" /> <parameter name="PROGRAM_VERSION" value="30.3" /> <parameter name="LIVERIES_FOLDER" value="" /> <parameter name="STOCK_AIRPORTS_FOLDER" value="stock_airports" /> <parameter name="ADDON_AIRPORTS_FOLDER" value="addon_airports" /> <parameter name="SPECIALS" value="" /> <parameter name="lfolder0" value="E:\MSFS\Packages\Community" /> <parameter name="lfolder1" value="" /> <parameter name="lfolder2" value="" /> <parameter name="lfolder3" value="" /> <parameter name="lfolder4" value="" /> <parameter name="lfolder5" value="" /> <parameter name="lfolder6" value="" /> <parameter name="lfolder7" value="" /> <parameter name="lfolder8" value="" /> <parameter name="lfolder9" value="" /> <parameter name="STOCK_AIRPORTS_PATH" value="E:\MSFS\Packages\Official\Steam\fs-base" /> <parameter name="afolder0" value="" /> <parameter name="afolder1" value="" /> <parameter name="afolder2" value="" /> When I open PSXT I get the message: 48: Set parameters to your airports first. I am going through the PSXT manual over and over but I can't figure out what I have wrong. The automatic scan parameters on the app screen are both turned off Can someone please help me? I feel like I am close but not quite there yet. UPDATE: It seems if I turn on the Autoscan for Addon Airports it suddenly works but I don't know why. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
