Because I'm getting back into the Sim with the new computer, she bought me a the Thrustmaster 16000 gear.. stick, throttle and pedals for my upcoming birthday. Left the box on the dining room table and says I can't use it until the end of the month as she has to wrap it... LOL. Struggling with my old Logitech 3d stick until then. Women!!!

Well, I guess it depends on your needs. Your board has 2 PCIe 4 slots and 2 PCIe 5 slots you can use for drives I believe. You would want to double check but you could probably use PCIe4 drives all around if you wanted to save money if there is a cost factor. I also run 32GB DDR5 ram and can so far run MSFS 2020 with ultimate settings but I haven't stressed it yet. I did have to do a bios update before the DDR5 Ram would work even though the board said it supported it. Mine has 4 slots for PCIe 4. I wanted to get away from mechanical HDD's so my setup is: C:\ OS and related work programs like Office 365 -- 1TB D:\ File Storage -- 1TB E:\ Flight sims only -- 2 TB F:\ External Asus Optical drive for old flight sims that need a boot disk like CFS 1 and whatever else I may need it for. It means a quieter machine for sure. Some of the Samsun Pro drives did have some issues, so double check on the ones you want. That's why I went with the EVO Plus drives.

I just recently put together a new system with Asus ROG Strix Z690-F as the MB, went the Intel route. If yours is capable of multiple PCIe drives, why put in a spinner? I know my board can take 4 of the drives. I'm using 2x 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus and 1x 2TB 970 Evo Plus. Have a vacant slot waiting for a sale 😉

Yes, sorry for the typo. mine are rated at 3,500MB/s Seq. Read

I just recently built a new PC and made sure it could run MSFS 2020. All drives are Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVME's. 2 x 1TB for work and a 2TB for Sims. Blazing fast. 30% faster than a regular SATA SSD. The case has a glass side, so strange to not see any drives in the machine!

Really enjoying this place. I have learned a ton reading all the posts from everyone as I get back in to FS now that I have the machine to run it!! Going through all the tutorials again but will most likely revisit them all once I figure out what new hardware I will purchase. The computer can run most everything at Ultimate settings so far, but I haven't stressed it too much so time will tell. On a side note, I actually got CFS1 to run perfectly on the Windows 11 machine. I knew I had saved a mod from somewhere that fixed that old Joystick issue!! Thanks to all for sharing their experiences, frustrations and fixes. Looking forward to learning even more!!

As a bit of a tech guy, I would think an adapter going A to C would be just fine. I'm not familiar with the Yoke, but if it takes USB - C as an input, a quick cable or adapter to the PC grab from Amazon would be my go to. If it doesn't work or degrades performance, you can send it back. My USB C devices work just fine with an adapter or a C to A cable when connected to the PC

As I delve back into the world of simming again, looking to replace the joystick for a better all over experience. I have read about ongoing quality issues with the logitech g x56 hotas, but that's the kind of setup I think I'd like to go for. Is anyone using the Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog? I know it's expensive and looks like it would take some time to set up, let alone save up for!! Prefer to keep the joystick approach as I will load my old MS Combat FS's at a later date. Thanks!

It won't allow me to process the purchase.. even though I have an account and have purchased Office 365 subscriptions and the Win 11 OS. Credit card on file. I know, it's strange. Made sure my VPN was off, tried it with it on. Not a major deal, I'll get it purchased this week when I have a few minutes to try again

My budget was to try and keep things at $2k for the machine, didn't need peripherals. I checked many web sites for what was needed to run MSFS fairly well and I believe I hit those spec. Even according to the MS website. I ended up at $2100 + HST. This is in Canada. The next issue I'm having is trying to buy the sim!! Can't do it from the MS website as I'm not in the US, Best Buy Canada servers won't connect so now I guess I will try Steam. As far as CFS 1 on my old Win 10 machine, I didn't need to run it via an emulator so that was nice..

Yes, I have to order one Ray, but it's a Sunday afternoon and my old machine has an optical drive and is still running. I wanted to make backups anyway. I was able to get MS Combat FS 1, 2 & 3 running on the old machine and want to try on the new one. It took quite a bit of tweaking under Windows 10, hopefully I can coax Win 11 to allow the same.
