March 19, 200323 yr Will the 2D panel view also show part of the overhead and the support bar between the two front windows? Just having the main 2D panel and nothing else seems a bit unrealistic. Thanks Eric
March 20, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi Eric,Check the FAQ on top of the forum:....we are providing 4 different main panel views in order to allow the user to choose the cockpit viewpoint that is most pleasing to him/her personally....VinPMDGwww.precisionmanuals.comhttp://www.vinscimone.com/dancnkid.gif Vin Scimone Precision Manuals Development Group www.precisionmanuals.com
March 20, 200323 yr Commercial Member Nameless-Please adhere to forum guidelines as posted at the top of this forum. Final warning, thanks.Now- my question: Unrealistic as opposed to what?I'm always confused when this topic comes up. I fly an airliner for a living- and I can assure you that I have to make a relatively large head movement to see the overhead panel or even the top of the window center support while flying. When I look at many of thep panel layouts available on the market today- I find myself wondering where my eyeballs position is located, why my panel centerline appears to be 30degrees outside of the viewpoint centerline- and I find it amazing that so much is crammed into so small a space on the screen....So help me understand what you meant by "realistic?" Before we get too far into the development cycle, I want to be sure I understand what you meant, and what your experience is.....RSRRobert S. March 20, 200323 yr Author Well, when you sit in an actual cockpit, your perifial (sp?) vision picks up what is around you. Looking at a monitor with a 2D panel, you do not have that, thus, visual aids (IMO) are needed so you get a sense that you are sitting in a cockpit. But then again, it's not my project and it was just a simple question. What does this mean? I have my name at the end of the post?>Nameless->Please adhere to forum guidelines as posted at the top of this >forum. Final warning, thanks Eric
March 20, 200323 yr Eric, You need to use your REAL FULL NAME although i'm sure your have the first part right :). Just look at mine Best Wishes, Randy J. March 20, 200323 yr Author Well Randy, I read the guidelines and this is what they say:3) We ask that ALL POSTS BE SIGNED WITH THE USERS ACTUAL NAME. We have established this policy for a number of years based on our observation that this policy reduces the number of "flame based" posts.4) Posts without actual names contained in them will be deleted at the discretion of PMDG.Well, Eric is my actual name. I don't see where it says your FULL name needs to be at the bottom. In this day and age where identity theft is everywhere and it takes years to clear your name if your a victim, I believe in just using my ACTUAL REAL first name only. Eric
March 20, 200323 yr Well you do have a point there. If PMDG wishes us to use our full names and not our real first name only, they should state this clearly. As to someone stealing your identity, I have a very common name so this is of no concern for me, plus if someone really wishes to steal one, they can look in any phone book. It's not like they are asking you for your SSN and DOB.Best Wishes, Randy J. March 20, 200323 yr I really don't think that if you are looking straight out that you see the upper panel. This is no differn't than being able to see your F/O while looking forward. You can see him "somewhat" with your perifal vision but as we all know there are limitions with a 2D panel. Also, the closer you sit to the panel, the less you see from left or right. The only way that comes closer to real life is a virtual cockpit but even then you are limited. I really like using Active Camera in a virtual cockpit and feel that this is the way of the future. March 20, 200323 yr I dont think I was explaining clearly, here is a link to an example of what I ment.http://www.avsim.com/pages/0203/dash8/snap045.jpgHere is a nother onehttp://www.avsim.com/pages/1201/b_york_df737/9.jpgI hope I got through this time.;)Best Regards,Johan Drejing
March 20, 200323 yr I noticed that the color of the digits on the autoflight panel is blue and not amber, kind a strange?Regards,Johan Drejing
March 20, 200323 yr Not so strange, the new birds from there are fitted with a new AP. One of the features (perhaps the most unimportant?)is the blue digits. Not sure if they are retrofitting them in all NG
March 21, 200323 yr Commercial Member Eric->I believe in just using my ACTUAL REAL first name only. Because your name was buried in your images/extra text I didn't see it. Your first name is fine- but since you challenged I may require full names. ;-)I'd prefer not to be confronted on the topic with symantics, however. I could simply start deleting- but those of you who have seen me around the sim world the past 11 years know that I'm not the censorship type. To repeat: You were okay- you buried yourself tho- so I didn't see it. ;-)To follow up the conversation- the images posted are a good example of what makes me cringe at most cockpits available today. If you put a line down the center of the screen- that line is your "airplane forward vector."If you then draw a line based on the "animation" around the screen- that centerline is going to be 30 degrees or so off the centerline. This being the case- you have to completely ignore the visual cues of motion in order to line the airplane up on a centerline. As a pilot- this destroys all semblence of reality within the simulator. Unfortunately- panel designers have trained many simmers to view this as "immersive."It isn't.Our goal is to take a slightly different approach and work to provide you with a better overall experience. To do this- we have included multiple views. Some will be "Traditional MSFS Off-Centered Views" and some will not.The images you are looking at had the center posts removed because we are working on some clarity issues... I think that may have been what you noticed most...Anyway- you will see more of what I mean when we present you with all of the views for your use. There are some that simply make flying the airplane while looking out the window a more realistic and pleasurable experience.I promise that the best part of my job involves looking out the window while taking off and landing- and I'm not sitting on my throttle console while I do it! ;-)Robert S.
