July 9, 200322 yr Commercial Member Captains-We've been reading with interest the various posts and threads on memory use by our airplane, as well as some concern about memory leakage. As part of our "update process" we are aggressively reviewing the memory usage of the airplane to determine if it is out of line with what we would expect, knowing as we do, what is happening behind the screen. The discussions and (gasp!) experimentation have provent interesting to read- and may of the more knowledgeable users have given us some interesting items to review and test.We have not been posting too many direct replies into these threads, but they are being taken quite seriously internally at PMDG.Our Lead Developer, Lefteris Kalamaras is leading an aggressive search through all aspects of our product to validate or invalidate concerns of excessive memory usage and or leakage. Additionally we are making a detailed review of memory usage from nose to tail.Just wanted all of you to know that we are reading/analyizing and hopefully improving the product for you! Robert S. Randazzo PLEASE NOTE THAT PMDG HAS DEPARTED AVSIM You can find us at: http://forum.pmdg.com
July 9, 200322 yr Thank you. It is really comforting to know that PMDG is taking the customer concerns seriously.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
July 9, 200322 yr Commercial Member Cool, thanks guys! It did seem excessive to me compared even to another plane using GDI vector gauges and a large navdatabase (the Flight 1 Meridian) that loads up pretty much instantly.Lefteris, if it helps, here's my exact system config:Soyo K7V Dragon mobo (VIA KT266 chipset)Athlon T-Bird 1.4Ghz512 MB DDR266Gainward GeForce 3 64MB (original GF3, no "Ti XX" etc)Soundblaster Live PlatinumDigidesign Digi001 audio recording card (has no effect on sound in other applications besides it's native ProTools)80GB Maxtor HD (ATA133 7200RPM 8MB cache on IDE1 master), 40 GB Maxtor (ATA100 7200RPM 2MB cache on IDE1 slave)TDK VeloCD 48X CDRW (IDE2 master) Pioneer DVD-106S (IDE2 slave)Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical, Microsoft Natural Multimedia KeyboardSaitek Cyborg 3D Gold USB JoystickCH Flight Sim Yoke USB (the 3 lever one)Ryan Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
July 9, 200322 yr Thanks for the info Robert. I must say I am very pleased with the 737 despite some of the problems. Its well on its way to becoming an all time classic. I too have been seeing the large memory usage and am pleased that you are looking into it. Your support since release has been top notch. Have you noticed / been told about the rudder not moving on the external model? Looks kind of strange, but at least the rudder command is working on the flight model! Thanks,Glenn Harrall

July 9, 200322 yr Hi Captain RobertGood to hear that you care for this Problem as well. For me framerate was reasonable so far (on a lower or medium sized system) I have not looked into VC and Cabin
July 9, 200322 yr I don't know if this is part of the memory/leakage problem, but I noticed this phenomenon: Anytime I shut down FS, it hangs. But *only* after the PMDG 737 has been loaded. When exiting from another (default) aircraft there is no problem. When I choose "File / Exit" it *appears* to exit in a normal way, but I found out the process "fs2002.exe" is still present in the Windows Task Manager, requiring a 100% CPU usage. The only way to get rid of it, is the "End task" button.I did a search in the avsim forums and found this post with the exact similar problem, using Wilco's A320:http://forums.avsim.com/dcboard.php?az=sho...=2518&mode=fullThe problem is also described here:http://www.anticyclone.be/cgi-bin/dcforum/...orum=DCForumID4Erik-Jan Noomen
July 10, 200322 yr Thanks Robert!Good to hear it, this is a terrific product!I take it your group will be looking at the stuttering as well? I get decent framerates with the 2d panels (which is all I use) but I also get a lot of stuttering.....I've got my swap file set to min 1 gig, max 1.5 gig, and I have 640 mb of mainboard ram (Dell Dimension 8200 with P-4 2.0 gig processor, Radeon 9700 pro 128 mb, WinXP home SP 1).Thanks and appreciate the updates and the productBill
July 10, 200322 yr Now what's *your* problem ?Are you trying to increase the level of constructiveness of this thread ?@-@anthonyAnthony MertonPrecision Manuals Developmenthttp://www.precisionmanuals.com
