Zoomed instruments for those of us with poor eye sight...

Here is a tip for those who like big, in your face instruments during take-off or landing.By editing the panel.cfg file in Notepad (make a backup copy first), you can increase the size of the pop-up avionics. By dragging them to the bottom of the screen, you can end up with a panel view that is very easy on the eyes! See attached picture. Best of all, the instruments click back to their original location with a single mouse-click..Here are the lines to be changed (from 400 to 480)://--------------------------------------------------------[Window11] // PFD Popupsize_mm=480,480 ...gauge00=PMDG_737NG_Main!EFISDisplay, 0,0,480,480,PFD POPUP//--------------------------------------------------------[Window12] // ND Popupsize_mm=480,480...gauge00=PMDG_737NG_Main!EFISDisplay, 0,0,480,480,ND POPUP

Good tip Bert. I like the bigger ones also. Just an adder, if folks don't want to change the .cfg file they can also resize the windows by clicking on the display and then dragging them to whatever size suits. I know that there have been times when I've made the ND very large in order to sort out the intersections. Really a nice feature if you're in the middle of an approach and have to change something on-the-fly (Senior Moments happen.....)Doug

Bert and Doug,You guys don't think the 'Z' panel is big enough? Maybe be I am spoiled with my 19" monitor?? ;-)On the serious side are you seeing any FPS hits doing this?George

George, it does not appear to affect framerates and on my 17 inch monitor it looks pretty good!

Bert

Actually, I've been using them with a crazy size. I've found a way to get them placed manually that's just right for me. They are a little bigger than the Z gauges but a bit smaller than Bert's 480 sizing. Once the old eyes got past 60 even my 19" starts looking small at times :-) . Boy, would I love a 21" or 22". And I don't see any framerate hit at all - no matter how large the gauges become. Doug

Thanks, Bert... I fall well into that category :-)I don't have too many problems with the main instruments, however, but has anyone tried reading the standby instruments on a 17" monitor or smaller? :-)Cheers.Ian.P.S. Is it just me, or am I seeing double here.... :-)http://members.ozemail.com.au/~b744er/737/...nsDecisions.jpgNice to be able to land at such a wide variety of airports.... BTW, has the airport database been modified to show only those airports a 737 can land on/takeoff from?

It's you.... ;) (j.k)I think the database is that of PIC767 so in that case there 'should' only be airports that qualify these prequisities...(767 takes more runway generally speaking, of course)

Doug, a permanent fix in the panel.cfg can place the pop up instruments nicely at the bottom..I'm using:[Window11] // PFD Popupsize_mm=480,480window_pos=.22,.52...//--------------------------------------------------------[Window12] // ND Popupsize_mm=480,480window_pos=.595,.52...

Bert

Thanks Bert. I hadn't thought about permanently changing the positions. Great idea. I'll try it in the morning (it's midnight here and I'm too sleepy to try it now).Doug

>Nice to be able to land at such a wide variety of airports....>BTW, has the airport database been modified to show only those>airports a 737 can land on/takeoff from? Well, I believe PMDG is getting the data straight from the 767 PIC navdata, which, I believe includes only airports that a 767 can land at. So I would assume that all the airports shown can take a 737 :) I would assume(but don't take my word for it, I am just a beta tester ;-)) that the database that will be offered at www.navadata.at specifially for the NG will have special NG airports.

>George, it does not appear to affect framerates and on my 17>inch monitor it looks pretty good! These CRTs have never given me an once of trouble wrt FPS, no matter what size I make them, or where I place them. Lefteris and the PMDG team did a heckuva(have to be language compliant around here you know ;-)) with the programming behind the CRTs. Smooooooooooth as silk. Kudos to the PMDG programming team :D
