2D frame rates are really bad..

Featured Replies

My 2D frame rates with any clouds (2d) are 8 to 10 which is unflyable. Any suggestions? I was getting 19fps in FS2002 consistently and get that in FS9 with FSD and Realair planes. Thanks.BobP :)GW2K - 2gig P4512 memGeforce 3 with lastest nvidia whql drivers

Bob,What is your MipMap setting in FS2k4? I noticed that if I set mine any higher than 4, my 2D panel fram rates become horrific (like 10-12 in the default 737 :-eek ). I don't have the PMDG 737NG, but it's worth a shot. :)Ryan-Flightpro08 :-cool VATSIM Pilot/ControllerZLA ARTCC Senior Controller (C-3)Help Fight Cancer! www.ud.comhttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg-----------------------------My "Home Made" System Specs:Intel Pentium 4 2.2GHz ProcessorTurbo Gamer ATX Mid-Tower with 420W Power SupplyEPoX 4G4A Motherboard with Intel 845G ChipsetVisiontek XTASY GeForce4 128MB Ti4600 (Det 44.03 Drivers)1GB PC2100 DDR RAM40GB Matrox 7200RPM Hard DriveWindows XP Home Edition SP1*No CPU or GPU Overclocking*-----------------------------Click Here to Download my American Eagle POSKY CRJ-200!

Hi,Thanks for helping. I have mipmap at 4 I believe. Did some more testing and clouds have nothing to do with it. Cold Dark Main Panel - 20fpsAPU Running - Main displays lit Main Panel - 17fpsEngines Running Main Panel - 7 to 9 fpsOverhead Panel - 19fpsThat is with weather cleared completely. You can imagine the slide show with a few clouds. I'll lower mipmap. Also, I have the PMDG guage uddate rate set at 10. Hope I don't need more HP to fly the plane in FS9. I'll also update FS2002 and see if it hoses my frame rates their also. Thanks.BobP :)Edit: I'm also running AA off. MIPMAP is 4.GW2K - 2gig P4512 memGeforce 3 with lastest nvidia whql driversWin2K OS SP4

Hi,Just wanted to say you might want to consider a newer video card. I've heard that a GeForce3 is considered the bare minimum for Flight Simulator, and you're not running a default plane here either. You notice that Bob has a GeForce4 Ti4600 with 128 MB of RAM on it. Just something for you too consider.Sincerely,Jimmy Richards

Hi Jimmy,The card is less than a year old LOL. I was waiting for the ATI driver issues to be cleaned up, then get a 9800pro. I'm just surprised how much difference there is between FS2002 and FS9 relative to fps. I will point out that my system does meet the minimum and is unflyable. I guess I'll mothball the FS9 737 until I get a new vid card. Thanks. I still have FS2002 for PIC and the patched 737 as long as it does not hose those frame rates.BobP :)

Ok. Thanks. Your blob looks a little pale this afternoon. Not quite as blue. LOL.Also, I installed the patch in FS2002 and frames rates remain a fairly constant 20 to 25 with everything running so that looks pretty good. I'll check my sound settings in FS9. Thanks.BobP :)

I lowered the audio from medium to low and reduced the Settings to default values for Scenery and Weather. That is giving me 14's which is ok for now in FS9, plus I can use FS2002 as a nice backup. Thanks.BobP :)

Hi Again,Yeah, changing the sound setting is a good tip and I hope that helps you. You may have bought the GeForce3 only a year ago, but doesn't the card actually go back in history somewhat farther than that? I forget. I mean, I have a GeForce3 Ti500 in my older computer, that I bought almost as soon a they hit the hit the market. Seems a lot longer ago than just 12 months. Just trying to get at the point that the architecure of that card is old now. Anyway, what I came hear to really let you know though, is that I'm doing pretty good on frame rates. Seems like around big cities though it drops, but not all the time. Over Seattle, when I looked in certain directions, my fps dropped drastically. As one example, specifically, when I looked down at this one nearby airport when coming in for a landing at the one I took off from. It would drop to like 6 fps. But I look away from that airport and it goes back to normal. Something to keep in mind there is that I have MyTraffic installed and at 85%. Other times it goes bad around cities too. But for the most part(keep in mind I haven't flown too much in FS9 yet) I get pretty good frame rates. Especially once I'm a ways up in elevation. I get good frames taking off though. No problem there. Anyways, I have my sliders turned all the way up and checkboxes checked for most everything, except a couple cloud sliders are not up all the way and, as BobP mentioned, keep that mip-map slider at 4! I also have Anti-Aliasing set at 4x. Anisotropic Filtering at 8X and set to performance instead of quality. It's working good for me with a 9700 Pro, as I said, for the most part. The issues are, 'smearing' of text and graphics on scrollable windows. Microsoft has been made aware of this issue. Fortunately it's not bad really on the kneeboard window. But the Learning Center is another matter. But I get around that by pulling up the Learning Center in Internet Explorer instead of in the game. Or hit 'F5'(refresh screen) to clear it up if I'm in the game full screen. The other issue is some damned flashing when going to menus in Full Screen mode! Like four flashes. Annoying! But not a show stopper, as it doesn't really affect gameplay at all. I have heard of Nvidia owners getting this as well. But with GeForce 4's not 3's. Ok, enoough of my rambling for now. But I suggest getting a newer card for yourself for FS9 now! hehe. (-:Take Care,Jimmy Richards

I have the same issue.. in FS2002, my 2d panel frame rate was hard at the 24 fps limiter. In FS2004, the frame rate is in the 16-18 range, even if I get rid of all weather.. the outside view of the airctraft is fine at 24 fps, or 20 fps for the WestJet livery..The landing panel is OK at around 22 fps, but the main and zoom panels have really lost a lot of performance since FS2002! BTW, i do like the re-worked 2d panels, they look better and they require a lot less memory!! (question.. are you also going to retrofit the front-left etc panels to 8 bit color? they still are memory hogs..):( P4-2.4, Ti4200-128, 512 Meg PC2700, WinXP

Ok well look at my frame rates and running a GF2 MX! Cannot get much lower than that but her is COF screen shot, and NO not everything is on low. NOTE: Please don't comment on the wrong heading/course settings it was for testing frame rates only hehe.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/27511.jpg[h5]Best Wishes,Randy J. Hello everyone!First post here, but i have been scanning this forum for a good time.To the topic then.I have the same problem with 2d panel. And also the sound issue mentioned in another post.I found the sound issue to be SBlive related, but the fps issue i still can figure out.I am running on on GF3 ti 500 card, and as mentioned here, randy is running a MX card, which would be far slower. So the Graphics card cant be the issue here as i see it.Before the patch i had a fps between 25 and 30 in 2d panel with almost all sliders to max and heavy weather. Now,it aint crossing 15,even if i turn down almost everything.Norwmally, with simplified clouds, and sliders at medium, i have 11-12 fps in 2d.The VC is better, with a fps around 18-23 at same settings.Running in FS2002 is another story. Here,i can have a fps between 25-30 in 2d,normal outside dense areas is 30 steady.VC a little lower. Why is this??I found the relations between FS2002 and 2004 to fall in favour of fs2004.In my system that is,i run everything else smoother on FS2004,except Pmdg737.Hope there could be a solution to this, and that someone else with similar systems could give som feedback. And at last,to the pmdg guys.Your 737 rules everything. It's an amazing plane, and i still find it hard to belive that the pfd and nd screens can be so beatiful. This is the primary instruments in the ng,and for me that means much. Thanks alot for work.

Friends: I have the following machine: PIV 2GHZ 512DDR PC233 ATI9700 Pro Windows XP updated FS2004 My subject is the following: will it be that with this system, does B737NG run in my machine without frame rates problems? Thank you

Hi,I don't think you'd have any problems. There are many systems and they differ. Yours is different than mine. But I don't have any problems and I don't think you would either. You might want to think about getting another 512 MB's of ram is the only thing I can think of. But it's probably ok with what you got.Cheers
