August 2, 200322 yr I am currently in the middle of a flight from KJFK to KTPA. My fuel calculations required that I have full wing tanks and about 3000lbs in the centre tank.On leaving JFK I had all fuel pump switches on and the crossfeed switch off.Passing through about 29000' the centre tank drained and both engines cut out. I was able to recover and continue the journey. Can somebode please advise the procedure to use when the centre tank drains and the fuel should now draw from the wing tanks.BTW. Thanks PMDG for the service pack.RegardsRussell Jourdain (NZL007/ZK-RHJ)
August 2, 200322 yr Your engines cut out? Interesting. Were your wing tank pumps on? I ask this because I am on a flight right now where the center tank went dry(I am dumb and wasn't watching it), but the plane kept sucking gas from the respetive wing tanks.
August 2, 200322 yr Author Yes, I had all pumps on. That's the confusing bit. Is the cross-feed meant to be open or closed at this point?I'm actually wondering if it is a bug - It has happened at least three times to me, and I haven't been able to figure out why. At this stage, as nobody else appears to have the problem I wonder if it is a procedural thing on my part, but I can't figure out what.RegardsRussell Jourdain (NZL007/ZK-RHJ)
August 2, 200322 yr o had a problem that whenever my center tank was used up, the engines cut off. even having the l/r tank pumps on.this problem is solved in the patch ;) X-Plane 11.3x / DCS 2.5.4 / P3Dv4.5 / Aerofly FS 2 Win10-x64 | ASUS Z270E | Intel i7-7700K @4.5GHz | Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB DDR4 | 6TB SSD Samsung 850 Pro | ASUS GTX 1080 ROG STRIX 8GB DDR5X | TM Hotas Warthog | Saitek Combat Pedals | Oculus Rift CV1
August 2, 200322 yr Author I have the patch installed and everthing went fine, as far as I can tell.Did this problem occur every time for you?RegardsRussell Jourdain (NZL007/ZK-RHJ)
August 2, 200322 yr Russell,Sorry, I am at a loss here. Wait for PMDG to take a look at this post, maybe they know whats up.
August 3, 200322 yr Author Thanks for your help. I have found a way to repeat the problem.1. Load FS20022. Select a 737-600 from the aircraft list3. Open Fuel setting and set centre tank to 500 lbs4. "Fly Now"5. Set flaps to 10 deg6. Use full throttle and takeoff from Meigs.7. As soon as the centre tanks get to 0 both engines shut down. Can somebody with the patch try this procedure and see if they get the same result?RegardsRussell Jourdain (NZL007/ZK-RHJ)
August 3, 200322 yr Hmmm, I too get the engine failure in that situation, but oddly enough only the right engine. Thanks for finding this one Russell!
August 3, 200322 yr Author Thanks Fred,I have just done another test for a work around. If you turn off the centre tank pumps manually just before they run dry. The fuel then feeds from the left and right tanks correctly.PMDG - If it is not already on your list can you take a look at it please.I can beta test for you if you like :)RegardsRussell Jourdain (NZL007/ZK-RHJ)
August 3, 200322 yr This happens to me to. I have to make sure I switch off the center tanks with say like 20lbs left so I don't get an engine cutoff. Eric
August 3, 200322 yr Nice green blob, did he visit his blue friend while he was in the hospital after the vicious attack from Jeff? :-lol
August 3, 200322 yr Yes, the center tank has NILL effect on the main tanks 1 & 2. Main tank # 1 and the left center fuel pump supply fuel to # 1 engine. The main tank # 2 and right center fuel pump supply fuel to engine # 2. There is a mechanical engine driven fuel pump that supplies fuel feed when there are no fuel pumps to supply pressurized fuel to the engines. I might be wrong here but you should have the CTR tank pumps ON(?) even with no fuel in the center tank, example, say if there is *0* in the center tank and you have a fuel imbalance in main tank #1, you would set CROSSFEED selector to open, main tank # 1 (low tank) OFF, Monitor balance till corrected then set main # 1's pumps ON and CROSSFEED to CLOSE and the CTR tank pumps remain ON. August 3, 200322 yr Take a look at the manual: Normal Procedures: page 2: "Center tank fuel pump switches should be positioned ON only if the fuel quantity in the center tank exceeds 453kg/1000 pounds."Andrew
August 3, 200322 yr Yes he did Fred. What a horrid attack!! I found green blob lost in cyber space so I thought I would give him a home so he could be close to his buddy blue blob. I have seen a white blob somewhere but don't remember where..poor blob, still lost in the cyber world. Eric
