August 5, 200322 yr I finally managed to attempt a flight in FS9 using the 737NG. Am I disappointed. I don't know if this is a FS9 problem or a PMDG problem but here's what happened.Today, I downloaded the remove.exe tool and the new SU1. I first removed the 737NG from FS9 using the remove tool. Then I reinstalled the 4 original files. I then installed the SU1 followed by the Continental textures.I set up my flight from KIAH to KTUL at 31,000 ft. I also downloaded the file bc_dark.zip that allows a cold and dark start up. I followed the Beginners Intro Tutorial for the engine start and both started up just fine. ATC cleared me to taxi to runway 15L. I was running frames per second in the mid 20s at this time. After departing 15L, I was instructed to turn to 340 and c/m 14,000 ft. As soon as I entered the turn, the fps dropped to 1.5! :-eek They remained there until we were on course. As the a/c was maintaining 340 degrees, the fps went back into the mid 20s. Later, during a left turn, the fps went down to 1.1 and the a/c climbed 1,000 ft to 32,000 ft. After passing over FUZ, we turned right and the a/c dropped 1,000 ft to 30,000 ft. OK, this isn't Smooth as Silk! but we'll see how it goes. Then, while in straight and level flight, the a/c began to porpoise. The attached .jpg shows a climb rate of 6,300 fpm! This is while ActiveSky v1.9 was changing the cloudscape. This got so bad, I just stopped my flight. Either the 737NG has a fps problem or something is going on with FS9. My sliders were not maxxed out. I'm not meaning to Rant here, but is there an issue with fps in turns? Or is there some sort of caching going on in my FS9???
August 5, 200322 yr To be quite honest Steve, there are some issues in COF. There are some *Noise* issues causing abrupt climbs and descents and the like. Active Sky might have some issues in itself with the NG so I would try the same flight without it, I would also try the same flight with the default 737 and compare your frame rates to see if your settings are ok to at least cut back the potentials here. The more we can learn the better for all involved...[h5]Best Wishes,Randy J. August 5, 200322 yr Author Thanks, Randy. I suspect it may be FS9 + ActiveSky. I'll try the flight in a default a/c -- the Lear 45 looks good.Meanwhile, I did finally manage to get the 737NG + SU1 installed in FS2002. I've downloaded FS Sky World v2.4 + patch and maybe that'll keep me occupied for a while. :DWhen I upgraded from FS2000 to FS2002 it took me 4-5 months to get everything tweeked to where I finally dropped FS2000. Probably the same with FS9.
August 5, 200322 yr Author Denis, You don't get it, do you??? I WAS at cruise altitude; e.g., FL310 cruising along at M.81. Then the AP went bonkers. The 6,300 fpm climb was part of the porpoise effect. I was NOT climbing. *:-* So, it isn't so funny that my ALT hold is activated, is it? :-lolRegards,
August 5, 200322 yr I made a complete flight from ENAL (Vigra, Norway) to ENGM (Gardermoen, Norway) with Activesky v1.9 b1 (I haven't upgraded to the official v1.9 yet, still running the v1.9 beta) and all went fine until top of descent.. When it reached top of descent VNAV commanded a descentrate of 4000fpm, so I think I'll control the descent manually until the next patch for the FMC is released (I think I saw that in a post somewhere) VNAV is working fine up until the top of descent.. And my frames are good too.. I noticed that the PMDG 2D panel flickered sometimes during the flight, but I'm not sure what's causing that.. I'm replacing my graphic card soon and I'll see if it goes away then... But it's weird, cause I don't have that flickering on any other A/C's in FS...
August 5, 200322 yr Another member found this helpful to potentially solve the prpoise issue:>In your FSUIPC - turn OFF reverse rudder trim sense ( turned on by default )Try it and let us know,George George Morris
August 5, 200322 yr Author Thanks, George. I'll do that and try my flight once again tonight. I'll also lower some of my sliders and take note of the settings. I have been using ActiveSky for about a year but just received FSMeteoe 6.01 and might try that tonight, also.
August 6, 200322 yr Author UPDATE:I am happy to say that I completed (well, almost -- read below) my first flight with the NG in FS9. I didn't use ActiveSky this time but instead used the real-world weather provided by FS9. There were no fps issues at any time -- not in turns, not in level flight. My fps averaged around 18 (12-24) with pretty much everything maxxed out except for reflections and ground shadows. Seems my problem was ActiveSky1.9. I had to abort my flight when FS9 ATC had me vectored to the active runway at KTUL completely WRONG. I was 3 miles out -- at a 45 degree angle to the runway and at 3,000 ft. The GS needle had fallen to the floor and I would have had to do a wing-over maneuver and drop at 2,000 fpm to make the r/w - but that's not a PMDG problem. I'm back to Radar Contact for FS9 from now on. The NG performed flawlessly! Great job guys.....
