September 9, 200322 yr hi all, when i am actually about to land and intercept the GS which button shall i press the VOR or the APP on the MCP?I have seen conflicting reports where i have to press on or the other?Thx! I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
September 9, 200322 yr APP ;)VOR will couple you to the localizer only and leave the glideslope alone. I presume you want the G/S coupled too right?Ray
September 9, 200322 yr Author yes, i do,what happens if you do not select a Brake setting before landing, i.e there is 1 2 3 or MAX, what happens if you do not set it, will the plane still land?alsoi have noticed that everytime i am in approach and controlling the speed manually to land via the MCP i look at the HSI and my flap reference settings never show up, i do press the VREF speed on the FMC, but still the flap settings never show up (i.e when to set flaps to the next level on descent.) September 9, 200322 yr If you are coming in at an angle make sure to dial in the course in the course window on the MCP and push APP. This will arm G/S and Localizer, localizer will capture first (in the real world SOMETIMES G/S will capture first but the on some NGs there is a option to delay G/S capture until localizer capture). The APP button light will extinguish once G/S captured and you will see G/S turn from white to green in the FMA.[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. September 9, 200322 yr Yes the aircraft will land regardless of whether you set the autobrakes. Don't be concerned much with the other flap settings. Just try to be flaps 15 at one dot high G/S and gear down. You will go from that to VREF + flaps (30 or 40)[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. September 9, 200322 yr Author i read in Fred;s tutorial to press the ALT HOLD Button before you intercept GS, why is this required, is it because the next waypoint (being the airport) is at (say) 10 feet, and if you do not press the ALT HOLD button the plane will start decending and crash in terrain? Is this how it is in real life? September 9, 200322 yr Author I Just ask because once again the N1 came on automatically on my approach, it was like the plane started doing an automatic missed approach, i don't know why the N1 came on automatically, any ideas? I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
September 9, 200322 yr Yea, the reason is answered in detail in my post "Continual FMC woes" on page 3; that being "the plane doesn't work..."
September 9, 200322 yr N1 would have come on for a perfectly logical reason.Prior to N1, what mode what your autopilot in? I am guessing you are plodding along with Lnav & Vnav active (autothrottle on) then you are hitting the APP button. As soon as the localizer kicks in, you are kicked out of Lnav. As soon as the glideslope kicks in, you are kicked out of Vnav.Since you do not have any other modes to choose from (you have not selected hold speed mode (SPD button & MCP dial set to 220 prior to walking your flaps down), it is going there because you have not told it otherwise. Since TOGA becomes your throttle cap setting (maximum power), thats what you are going to get out of the engines ;)Set SPD and HDG SEL before APP and you will find this doesn't happen ever again.Always watch the modes in the PFD, green are active, white are armed to become active. They will always tell you what is up and what is going to happen next...Ray
September 10, 200322 yr I see that you are having a good time TROLLING here. Just because you don't know what you are doing does not mean that the FMC does not work. [h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. September 10, 200322 yr Call it what you want, but assuming I don't know what I am doing shows YOUR ingnorance of the matter, and the FMC DOESN'T work...
September 10, 200322 yr I'm not going to play #### for tat with you. The fact is that you are coming in OTHER threads stirring up trouble and treading on thin ice doing so. If it does not work and you see no hope for your situation then by all means for the sake of us who have none of your issues go somewhere else. What is your intent? To only talk the product into the ground and convice others of the same thing, yeah I am igonorant of people's atitudes on a forum, maybe it's because of my whole 6 posts....[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. September 10, 200322 yr Author "Set SPD and HDG SEL before APP and you will find this doesn't happen ever again."Hi Randy, thanks for your feedbackwell i do have manual speed on my approach which is SPD set on the MCP, what i don't have is HDG SEL, i am quite confident thats where the problem is, i let the plane navigate on LNAV at this point in time, i will do another approach and get back to you. September 10, 200322 yr "Set SPD and HDG SEL before APP and you will find this doesn't happen ever again." Hey Clayton, I did not write that did I? Does not sound like me. I know I can tell you the correct way if you tell me your route and approach airfield...[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J.
