December 16, 200322 yr Author I wonder the same thing, I certainly do not know myself, but I would venture to guess it's A LOT! I will not ask folks how much they make simple because it's none of my business, if this is somehow rude then oh well. This was looked at prior to release, the best option thought of was the one implemented for release, it would have worked but unforeseen software issues have plagued this distrubution. December 16, 200322 yr Commercial Member Thomas-At PMDG we do not share any information related to sales, security, customers, etc....It's been our experience that there really is no need to share such information as it serves no general purpose except to expose informatoin that is best not shared publicly.Suffice it say that thus far sales have been relatively close to our expectations- and slightly below projections due to problems with the initial product release...The actual figure is not a number I wish to share, however!Hope that answers your question! December 16, 200322 yr "One company produces multimillion dollar aircraft capable of flying across oceans - the other produces $40 simulator addons, capable of flying you from the chair in front of your computer to the chair in front of your computer."LMAO!!! ... That one really cracked me up !!!Peter
December 16, 200322 yr Well said Greg!I gotta admit I was surprised by the demand for SU2, and that lead me to be curious as to how many units they've sold.At the risk of repeating myself from other threads, I just hope PMDG learns from this drastic underestimation of demand for the SU2 update, and brings an appropriate amount of resources to bear for the next big launch. Who knows how many sales of the new product they've lost because of all the customers who were waiting for the SU2 release to purchase who are now hitting the same brick wall that the existing customers are. I only hope those people exhibit some patience and come back in a week or two to try their purchase again. I want PMDG to get all the sales they deserve so they stay around and keep making exceptional planes for a long time to come. :)
December 16, 200322 yr >>>>I am just wondering how many aircraft did you sell up to now?I woudnt imagine you hade sold that much. Can i ask you guys an aprox. number???I'm sorry but that simply is not a question that you should ask. Information like that is private to PMDG themselves. I know you probably mean well, but certain things just cannot be disclosed publicly.
December 16, 200322 yr Dear PMDG,I am just wondering how many aircraft did you sell up to now?I woudnt imagine you hade sold that much. Can i ask you guys an aprox number???Thank you
December 16, 200322 yr Well lets just say you did put an answer here but you didnt answer my question!- At PMDG we do not share any information related to sales, -- security, customers, etc.... -Well didnt ask about security customers i was just asking an estimate number!!!!But since you dont want i accept it!I dont know why you had to do from a simple answer to make such a big thing!Just a suggestion= for the 800 release plese try to make something about the acces because it will be even more people for it so i dont realy want to know what ll happen then!!!!Since i dont realy care about the 700/600 my favourite is the 800!Hope you ll sort something out!For everybody's comfort (for you guys: wont get that much bad post, for us: better service less anger less stress.)Best regards
December 16, 200322 yr Commercial Member Ross-I think MANY users were surprised at the demand...LOL!We were NOT surprised by the demand at all, however.... After all- we simply reviewed the customer database and did some simple math to figure out how much data we'd have to ship across the lines upon release...One of the things that has been frustrating for us during the past few days is being "armchair-admiraled" in the public forum... To read the posts here- you'd think we simply opened a hotmail account and went into business! ;-)Sometimes it seems that people forget that alot of planning and work goes into such a release- just ask our beta team...they were relatively heavily involved in much of it!When we determined the size of the udpate, reviewed the server errors that created problems during the initial release (those were shopping cart problems...) and we worked with our server host to ensure that we had the capability to send that type of data....Then we spent some time trying to decide if we should release the SU2 in phases based upon the date of purchase.Ultimately- we decided that the latent capacity of our server would not require a phased release- and we REALLY didn't want to have to manage the friction that such a phased release would ulimately create. (You KNOW we'd be second guessed for starting on 01JUL as opposed to most recent date, you know?)So you can imagine our consternation when it became apparent that the server was bogging down... After all, a number of IT and electronic distribution specialists had reviewed our system prior to the release and expressed only marginal concerns... And our own experience with data transmission led us to expect a smooth process..(Or else: Why would we proceed?)So- in spite of the conjecture we've seen- we didn't stumble into this blind... and when problems came up we put all available resources into play to resolve them.... We feel we have a solution to the software side problem- and we'll be posting more information on that in a bit...Ross: Thanks for your posts offering assistance, BTW...while we couldn't accept many of the offers from the community for many reasons- yours was certainly one that we entertained... December 16, 200322 yr Hello my dear friend ;-)Just wondering and have still not figured out - does you work for PMDG in any way considering how often you answer questions that shouldn't be answered by anyone but the staff from the PMDG team?Just wondering out of curiosity...All the best Randy,
December 16, 200322 yr Apologies to the imprompteu moderators.. I guess my post was a little spicy. :) But needless to say, while I am sure we all are curious about the sales numbers of the PMDG 737, I am positive they considered the bandwidth, transmission, and overhead needed to distribute the update to all their customers. -Greg
