May 10, 200422 yr On the 737 PFD indicates "TCAS Off." I'm wondering if traffic radar IS available, and how might it be enabled? I usually use the Alaska 737/900 (2D only) and I cannot find anything in the docs, nor anything on enabling MAP backgrounds. Anyone know? Thanks in advance... Ron McLeod CYEG
May 10, 200422 yr Huh?? :-hmmm Have you had it on with the 600, 700, or 800?I haven't flown the 900 yet, but just like all the other models, you must turn the transponder knob to TEST, then after it says "TCAS system okay" click it to TA/RA. It's on the radio panel next to the transponder numbers. Then turn it on via the main panel by clicking TFC on the range selector.Chris - Chris Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | Intel Core i9 13900KF | Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB | 64GB DDR5 SDRAM | Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling | 1TB & 2TB Samsung Gen 4 SSD | 1000 Watt Gold PSU | Windows 11 Pro | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Thrustmaster TCA Captain X Airbus | Asus ROG 38" 4k IPS Monitor (PG38UQ) Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard | Intel i7 4790k CPU | MSI GTX 970 4 GB video card | Corsair DDR3 2133 32GB SDRAM | Corsair H50 water cooler | Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (2) | EVGA 1000 watt PSU - Retired

May 10, 200422 yr "you must turn the transponder knob to TEST, then after it says "TCAS system okay" click it to TA/RA."(Sidenote) Selecting "TA/RA", directly, will not stop the TCAS operating. The Test function is optional ;-) Note that the Test function is inhibited when the wheels leave the ground, so you can't test it in air.Cheers.Ian.
May 10, 200422 yr How bout making this post a sticky? :) Since this question pops up every day or two, at least once...
May 10, 200422 yr How about also reading in the PMDG documentation in the FS2004 folder (PMDG/737TNG/Aircraft Operating Manuals 737-800-900/)09_AFDS_SYSTEM_737_678900_V14.pdfSection 9 - 16 AUTOMATIC FLIGHT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMSTCAS II Version 7Or for online reading:http://www.precisionmanuals.com/downloads/...le=419&iType=19Manuals can be a very helpful tool (just gotta read them)! ;-) George Morris
May 11, 200422 yr "09_AFDS_SYSTEM_737_678900_V14.pdfSection 9 - 16 AUTOMATIC FLIGHT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMSTCAS II Version 7"Ah... that explains why the forum is getting so many questions. TCAS has nothing to do with the AFDS system. IRL, Boeing considers it to be a Navigation system, but there may be references to it in the Instrument section also.RgdsIan.
May 11, 200422 yr "How bout making this post a sticky?"And include a sticky to remind people to read the stickies ;-)Suggestion: Include instructions in the sticky on how to use the Search function in pdf files and on the AVSIM forum. Label the sticky "This is the only message you will need to read, to find answers to your questions".... pref. in flashing red, uppercase letters ;-)Cheers.Ian (signing my real name here as per forum rules).P.S. Be sure to include stickies for arming the autothrottle, setting V2 ONLY for T/O, how to start the Right engine, Unsched Descent,.... (I'm sure Randy, Matt and the other volunteers can think of a few more)P.P.S. Also include a few reality checks for posters of messages:Just because your other FS aircraft don't do this or that, it does not mean PMDG is incorrect. If you don't know how the real 737NG works/flys, don't tell the PMDG team or others how you _think_ a real NG should behave. As far as I can see, the NG is a very atypical Boeing. Expect the unexpected. If you put the word BUG (in large letters) in your message title, don't expect a 100% polite response from everyone on the PMDG team. You may be damaging the reputation of the sim without valid reason. Remember that "mud sticks"... and it doesn't help that every informative/helpful response to your BUG message (on the forum) will bear the same BUG title. If you post a message on the forum at 9am (your local time), don't expect an answer at 9.01. It may be 3am in some parts of the world, so you are not likely to get an answer (except from Randy, who doesn't sleep at all :-)). Allow at least a day or two before BUMPing your message. Some answers may require a bit of research. On the other hand, the regular forum answerers, by not answering straight away, may be trying to give you a hint to try a bit harder to find the answer for yourself. There are very few questions on this forum that haven't already been answered or are covered by the manuals. If someone reminds you of the AVSIM forum rules, don't "shoot the messenger".At least make some attempt to make the title of your post refer to the problem you are experiencing... Don't entitle it "Question" or "Twenty Questions". It makes it much more difficult for everyone to find answers to their (similar) questions. I'm sure the PMDG team don't mind you creating individual, properly titled messages for each problem you are experiencing. Problems are so much easier to tackle, one at time.Finally... Volunteer answerers always welcome... as long as you know your answer is 100% correct (and preferably have some kind of NG manual reference to back it up). If it is not correct, you are simply generating more work for the PMDG team if they have to correct the misinformation you are telling everyone. It may take many correct answers from reputable sources to convince the listener that your less-than-100% correct answer is actually wrong.
May 11, 200422 yr Hi Randy,I got the TCAS working etc no problem. I dont get the little circle of dots around the a/c symbol in the map display. I have seen a few screenies which show this. In the TCAS menu I have all the options checked and I am getting TCAS input from FS2004 and not FSUIPC. Any suggestions what I am doing wrong? Thanks,Dinshaw.
May 11, 200422 yr Wow Ian!That one is definitely worth to be a sticky! ;-)Cheers, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
