737 Circumnavigates the Globe

Featured Replies

Once again proving there are few things that can't be done in a PMDG 737NG, I just completed a circumnavigation of the globe.MAPfinal.gifAll but a few legs were scheduled airline flights including some rather longish legs over the Pacific! 36 legs, 33395 miles - many hours! Thank you PMDG!:-halo

Hey Jennifer! That is soo cool! Do you have pictures from your trip? Somewhere on the web perhaps?TGIF, :-beerchug

If I had known you were going to attempt that Jennifer I would have most certainly been in on it....even though there would be a slight time clash between Australia and you...I still would have managed! How long did it take??

Thats neat - I like the map you posted showing your route....one things for sure...u got a *lot* more patience than I do! :)I can last two hours in real-time on a PC simulation. If the flights gonna take longer, I call up the GPS screen , hit slew and warp to within 45 mins of the destination http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contri...y/corkysm20.gif

Thats cool, I think I'm going to try that myself ;-)Andrew

I'm one of PMDG's biggest fans and I started out just wanting to demonstrate you could go around the world in a 737 - hopefully using all scheduled routes. My VA is very supporting of this sort of thing.Unfortunately, screenshots only occurred to me when I was halfway through. Now I wish I had a shot of taking off or landing at every airport I visited. Not sure how long it took, Justin. I could go to Flight Keeper and add it all up, I suppose. I know I started last summer and just finished. Of course, there were interruptions - tour of Africa after the really good Africa Landclass came out... that sort of thing. In retrospect, it would have been a lot more fun to do with a buddy and that's another item for my growing list of "I wish I'd thought of..".I'm with you Nevin - I detest long, boring flights. But I never have used slew or time compression. That's why, as you look at the map, most of those flights are relatively short. If you just want to go around the world, don't mind long flights, and don't care whether or not it's a scheduled airline route - you can circumnavigate the globe very quickly. The PMDG 737 is superb!

<<< That's why, as you look at the map, most of those flights are relatively short >>>>Thats true Jennifer, I did notice that :) Did you fly a 737 with winglets to sqeeze out more non-stop range?I'll admit theres been times when I play wannabe airline pilot, leave the autopilot on and go do something else...only to come back to find I've flown 200 miles past my destination http://www.nextgenerationrecords.co.uk/boa...con_redface.gif

>Thats true Jennifer, I did notice that :) Did you fly a 737>with winglets to sqeeze out more non-stop range?Actually, I flew whatever model the airline had scheduled on the route at the time I flew it. I'd planned to work my way up Siberia and cross to Alaska, but couldn't find flights. Then I discovered Continental does some island hopping across the Pacific to Hawaii. That one's a 737-800 as I recall!

Doesnt Aloha Airlines have a non-stop 737-800 service from Oakland to Honolulu? :)That would be a bit trippy...flying over all that ocean on a wee 737!

Jennifer isn't alone...................I am currently in my third 'round the world' trip, this time with the PMDG 737-800 and traveling east west and have got as far as (MGGT) La' Aurora international on the way back to the UK.I fly with 'Knight Air' VA where a break from assignments is optional. You can even do it 'Off-Line' as well if you prefer! www.knightair.org is the best.Dave. (Alias KNT5100G)ASUS KT333 M/Board, Radeon9800Pro128mb, 1024DDR, ATI xp2400+CPU, 80 gb HDD

>I am currently in my third 'round the world' trip, this time>with the PMDG 737-800 and traveling east west and have got as>far as (MGGT) La' Aurora international on the way back to the>UK.I'm curious, Dave. Do you fly scheduled routes? Or just select the legs on your own. I went nuts trying to find contiguous scheduled routes and in retrospect probably would just select my own legs if I did it again.

I might have to burst your bubble, here, Jennifer :(Can a 'round-the-world flight be legal if it doesn't go below the equator?... Otherwise, someone could fly around the world at 89 degrees North and still claim to have flown around the world ;-)I notice that you were about 1 degree short of the equator. Better fire up those engines.... and start all over again.(Cruel, ain't I)Cheers.Ian.P.S. Welcome to the club ;-) (Been there, done that).

>If I had known you were going to attempt that Jennifer I>would have most certainly been in on it....even though there>would be a slight time clash between Australia and you...I>still would have managed! How long did it take??Just so happens I started my RTW trip about 2 weeks ago, starting at YSSY (Sydney, Australia). I am mixing it up with other aircraft, but PMDG's 737-700 in QF colours is the main aircraft. Screenshots are being taken.Rough routing is as follows:YSSY (Sydney) -YBBN (Brisbane) -YMML (Melbourne)-YPAD (Adelaide) -YAYE (Ayers Rock) -YBRM (Broome) -WSSS (Singapore)-VBTD (Bangkok Thailand)-ZPPP (Kunming, China)I am presently at ZPPP, and planning an overflight of Mt. Everest on my way to New Delhi, India. From there, possibly Uzbekistan, Moscow, then down into Europe, England, Greenlad or Iceland, then all through the US and Canada. This is actually a rouch trip we are doing in real life overland (parts of it) next year).Chardy.

Hi Jennifer,Answering your question, no I don't follow scheduled routes I use 'FSnav' to plot routes using the proper airways. The theme of a 'RTW' at Knight Air is a fictional group of people wishing to traverse the globe and destinations where the pilot wants to go next. It's entirely up to you the captain.I couldn't resist flying from MGGT to KSEA yesterday 2672NM just for the privilege of utilizing the FS9 default airport.Three greens and soft landings,Dave.ASUS KT333 M/Board, Radeon9800Pro128mb, 1024DDR, ATI xp2400+CPU, 80 gb HDD
