PMDG and ATC

Featured Replies

Hey all,I have been flying the PMDG 737ng series for lttle over 2 months now. I dont request IFR clearance from FS9 ATC as they give me commands that interfere with my FMC flight plan.I just wondered what do other people use? I like to fly in poor weather and unless I make an IFR request, ATC will not let me land or takeoff:-hmmm Thanks in advance,David

Yes FS9 ATC is a poor thing:If you file an VFR plan, the ATC will not override your PMDG route, but you will not be cleared to depart in bad weather, low visibilty or at night...(bad thing). If you file an IFR plan, the ATC will vector you from the beginning to the end of the flight, overriding your PMDG route...(bad thing too).I know many people is using "Radar Contact 4". I am thinking about purchasing it, it seems to be quite good and much more realistic.Jose Luis

I have been using Radar Contact4 for sometime with all of the aircraft in my hanger including the 1900, NG and 744. Good product.Another option is to fly using one of the on-line services (ex: Vatsim). It is a great experience as well. IMHO closest to the real thing that I have encountered.

I never use FS9 ATC. I believe the most popular ATC add-on is RadarContact. It overcomes most of the shortcoming of default ATC.My personal preference is to forego any ATC and just fly the route I've planned. However, I still fly real world almost weekly so my expectations of an ATC simulation are pretty high. You would probably be very pleased with the RC4 product.
