Concerning Polar Flight PMDG744

Recommended Posts

Guest dogdog1985

I am flying from KJFK to ZBAA, the route is GREKI3 GREKI JUDDS MARTN ALB J563 YSC 5000N 07500W 5500N 07600W 6000N 07800W 6500N 08000W 7000N 08300W 7500N 08900W 8000N 10100W 8420N 14100W RAMEL G491 SULOK G218 POLHO G218 TMR B458 TZH A596 KM KM11AAt, N82, PMDG automatically switch to True bearing, because Mag bearing is useless here. The transition is nicely done. However, the aircraft can't follow the FMC route, "the pink line in ND" as the "pink line" always change, it 's hard to follow the changing route direction. The case is herefs92006-12-1917-31-19-98.jpgOnce the A/C catch the route, the route change it's direction, it's hard to follow, or shall I use HDG SEL??

I believe there is a known issue in FS9 concerning flying over the poles. Bottom line is I don't believe the sim supports it. Do a forum search and you should find further information.

Joseph,Yeah, as George stated, I think you have hit the infamous 'polar wall' that's present in FS9. Apparently it is supposed to be fixed in FS10 as they modelled the earth to be spherical! :-eekHope it helps,

Re-live the Adventure! http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/163480.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/163481.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/163482.jpgThis is as far as it goes. Check the ND. The North Pole is that turn point up ahead. I'm going to roll off the wall and recapture the Lnav track that is coming out the other side of this circular Polar Force Field. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/163483.jpgDead stopped at the Polar Force Field. Contrails overtake airplane. Nosed into the Wallhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/163484.jpgRollin' off in heading select, for a run down the wallhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/163486.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/163487.jpgNotice the pole is now off to the left. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/163488.jpgRecapture Lnav track coming out the other side of the Polar Force Field. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/163489.jpgI'd try it in FSX, but without a real airplane, it just wouldn't mean anything. The real drill of the initial flight was to check out the IRU update fail-through sequences as the airplane approached then departed the pole. Several detaiis weren't quite right, but all and all, the general modeling was all there. Just amazing. Have you guys flown that FSX default thing. Ugh. We are sooo spoiled!

Hey Sam,I've done that when fs9 came out, with the defaut 744, since I've been waiting for this to be fixed since many years. (see that post, made three years ago on another forum! http://forums.ai-aardvark.com/showpost.php...04&postcount=1)I'd be interested if you could try this in FSX with their defaut 744 and see what happens. On a side note, Joseph seem to say that when nearing the pole the LNAV navigation becomes eratic? Is that true?I recall the wall is located at North 89.30, whatever the longitude is, and I recall doing this test in fs2002 with the PSS744, and the navigation on track up to 89.30N was good.I might give it a try myself maybe, thinking about it, that will be my next flight. T's been a while I havent flown the Wall :-) Regards,

Joseph-Because I felt a bit worried about your sayings that lateral navigation was eratic after N82, I made a short test flight earlier today. Took off from Thule AFB, and flew along 060W longitude to the north. Fortunately, the lateral navigation, my end, worked perfecly. Untill I reached 89.30N's wall, but that's not a surprise of course.I got the SPLIT IRS OPERATIONS message, and the plane kept straight on track. No lateral deviation. So I have no idea why you encountered this problem.http://a.solvay.free.fr/Pics/8930.jpghttp://a.solvay.free.fr/Pics/fmc.jpgHope this help somehow.

Seems like I remember some real strange Lnav behavior before the one of the updates. With GPS present position updating inhibited, the ND indicated that the airplane's present position stopped and the magenta line just wandered off without me. It finally marched entirely off the ND. Enabling GPS brought it back to normal. During a polar run (at a certain latitude) the FMC's IRU present positing updating changes from GPS to IRU T-mix then split IRU. Directly over the pole, all nav disengages and the airplane goes into a wings level, heading hold mode. (That's what I wanted to see, but I couldn't get there!) But as far as I got, the polar region nav functionality worked much better after the Freighter update. I see you might still have the initial Pax version. At some point in the revision cycle, the PMDG airplane's Lnav really had a hard time up there. If you are not entirely updated, that might be what you are still seeing.

My version is already V10, without sound update(it's lagging for me, dunno why), and without 738 and 744F

Adding to this topic:N82, the MAG bearing switched to TRU automaticallyN84, split of IRUSame as your post, and returned to normal after N82 due south

Well, Joseph, as Sam rightly wrote, you must be aware that the 744F came with very significant changes made to the FMC coding as well, impacting the 744pax too. Fuel predicition improved and hundreds of corrected/improved FMC features, notably navigation routines. For this reason only, I can only but recommand you getting the 744F as soon as you can.

As I think Cargo 744 is the same as Pax 744, in handling I mean. Next time I will install it

FYI:The 744 freighter add on included various fixes for the PAX that was never made available separately. If you want the PAX patched, you gotta buy the freighter.
