September 17, 200817 yr Are we confusing 3 A/P engagement with LAND 3 green (1500agl)? Perhaps all this was before 1500'? I need to watch that video again!Wonder what Trevor and Douggie are doing now......and what happened to the Oasis aircraft?Best-Carl F. I still can see a white annunciation on the PFD under the green annunciation for pitch mode!Well, it is not SO clear on the video, so please don't shoot me if i'm wrong ;-) Regards, William Vrielynck
September 18, 200817 yr William's explanation is the only one making sense honestly.Haven't seen the movie so have no real idea...On my aircraft, AvroRJ, you get a CAT3 autoland status assesment at 1500' AGL(not before) There is no way to get out of APP mode at all, even without CAT3 autoland status. That's why for circling approach we have to use LOC mode with a V/S. As said above, our system lets us get out of APP mode by disconnecting AP, AT, FD's and then reengaging whatever we need.I think it's a bad idea btw, in IMC, low alt, relatively high speed going HDG SEL with negative V/S and altitude target above your present altitude... but havent seen the movie so can't really comment.Cheers
