September 8, 200223 yr I realized yesterday I would not be able to make the group VATSIM flights in Portugal, so I decided to do LPPT-LPMA last night. Well, who should join me midflight but Mike Bevington (AAL327) and Ian Elchitz (ACA301) to form a mini PIC flight!I snapped some screen shots, and Mike caught a few. I was first in so was able to watch the other guys coming in. Nice looking landings all around on runway 05. However, we were subjected to virtually no wind.AAL327 on base:http://www.sls.lcs.mit.edu/ilh/fs/767pic/lpma/base-327.jpgAAL327 on short final:http://www.sls.lcs.mit.edu/ilh/fs/767pic/lpma/final-327.jpgAAL327 making the turnoff (you won't make this turnoff if you land at all long or fast):http://www.sls.lcs.mit.edu/ilh/fs/767pic/l...turnoff-327.jpgACA301 on downwind:http://www.sls.lcs.mit.edu/ilh/fs/767pic/l...ownwind-301.jpgACA301 on base:http://www.sls.lcs.mit.edu/ilh/fs/767pic/lpma/base-301.jpgACA301 on short final:http://www.sls.lcs.mit.edu/ilh/fs/767pic/lpma/final-301.jpgACA301, UAL337, AAL327 parked:http://www.sls.lcs.mit.edu/ilh/fs/767pic/l...301-337-327.jpg(Note that due to differences in the scenery we were using the others appear to be levitating above the tarmac.)A shot Mike took from over Rosario (tower view) watching Ian's approach:http://www.sls.lcs.mit.edu/ilh/fs/767pic/l...eira-ACA301.jpgA group shot by Mike (I believe the Air France is part of his scenerey):http://www.sls.lcs.mit.edu/ilh/fs/767pic/l...301-at-gate.jpgLee Hetherington (KBOS)
September 8, 200223 yr Great shots Lee. I wish I could have been to the official fly-in, but I was stuck in a little Warrior shooting approaches into Lakeland airport (KLAL) with my CFII.BTW, I saw where you found studentpilot.com. It's a good board with lots of helpful folks.
September 8, 200223 yr That's funny, I was flying in a Piper Warrior yesterday as well...with Harroon and Bill VC...who both did most excellent greasers I might add.Nice screen shots, look forward to seeing you guys this afternoon.Rob. September 8, 200223 yr Thanks to everyone who turned out. I set my tower view out by Rosario at 900 feet and took these shots of the first several landings a Madeira. Sorry for anyone who has a 56K modem.
September 9, 200223 yr Rob and Stiffy, are those go-arounds?Ouch, what happened to BCA45?Lee Hetherington (KBOS)
September 9, 200223 yr Hi Mike,I really enjoyed it! Unfortunately, I had to leave after I had set course to Ponta Delgada because it was getting late and I had to go work the next morning. In Western Europe, on summer time schedule, it was late in the evening. I have enclosed two screen shots, one of you AAL327, parked at Madeira, through my cockpit window having the airport on visual and cleared for the approach. And another one which is the same shot you took from the landing of UKD121, but now from my perspective. It's about the same moment in time...The pictures are a little dark, since I was running on the local time schedule, about 19:44 Zulu, and it was dark in my simulator...(how come your screen shots are still showing day light?) Therefore my landing was very tough, I could hardly see something. Again, I really liked this virtual experience, and are looking forward to meet you and the others in the skies again.KiekMPH641EHAM
September 9, 200223 yr Thanks for the screen shots Ian.Another PIC flight I missed thanks to rw interruptions :-fume
September 9, 200223 yr Good shots! I had to switch back to daylight after landing to take the screenshots. Then went back to real time for the next leg.
September 9, 200223 yr Hehe - yep, I missed the first time - I had practiced this a few times off line and had no problems....I guess the pressure of ATC and my fellow PIC-addicts watching with the scorecards ready got me all flustered ;-)Second approach I made it no problem, although SBOX quit on me as I touched down...Nothing is perfect, eh.Rob.
