December 9, 200223 yr >Is Eric still around on the forum? don't think so ...Michael J.[link:jdtllc.com]http://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg Michael J.
December 9, 200223 yr I've been back steady on the forum for a good number of months and have NEVER seen Eric. I do see Wade and Predro once in a while. Randy Randy J Smith
December 10, 200223 yr I'm guessing he's still around, lurking in the shadows. He will make himself known to us when he's ready (maybe on the next PIC team release?)Later,Neil
December 10, 200223 yr He lurks, but rarely speaks. His focus in life has changed quite a bit since 9/11 - those events hit pretty close to home. I think PIC was a bit of a burnout too. Still...every once in a while, some clever twit manages to say something truly offensive and idiotic in here that even Eric can't stay his hand ;-) I know that feeling well *lol* Eric is just better at it than I am!
December 10, 200223 yr Commercial Member I seem to recall him leaving the forum after the idiots hacked the FS2002 PIC patch beta and started installing it early... Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
December 10, 200223 yr He's been around since then, but yeah...BS like that hasn't done much to inspire him to contribute as much to this once reputable hobby of ours. Times have changed.J
December 10, 200223 yr Perhaps for the better... I like to think that there's still hope. I've seen this forum shine as a "hobbyists" resource, and I'd hope that Eric would feel in some way honored by its current state.Regards,Phil Geddes
December 10, 200223 yr This forum is a true diamond in the rough and about the only compelling reason I post at AVSIM at all these days :) Morons, trolls, and 'gamers' get run out of town here pretty quick - keeps the rif-raff down. The presence of several RW pilots, FO's, and mechanics here really sets this place apart.Likely, this is one of the last bastions of the "true" FS hobbiest. If that sounds somewhat elitist - well it's meant to: we are elite :)
December 10, 200223 yr I wish one day i'll finally get my type rating on a real 767...i do know a girl, she's gonna be my FI next year for my ATPL training, who has got a Type Rating on 767, and she's about 25 years old... lolwe are elite of the virtual skies, that's a fact...(btw you really gotta do the LPMA (funchal-madeira) approach, it's quite risky at first and then when the end of the runway comes op(LDA=~1400m and the LDR=1344m, was quite close, i wonder if that'd been allowed in real life?))
December 13, 200223 yr Lenny, the LDA at Funchal is much more than that, the runway has been extended for a while now. The approach is still challenging though, especially because of the windshears and severe turbulence that is not modeled in FS. I've done it once in the 757 in real life.
December 13, 200223 yr yeah i heard those high ridges(mountains) are a very heavy pain in the *rse...pilot i know has done it around 10 times in his entire career and can't get enough of it. This i what he calls 'a true challenge in good visual conditions'... can't say it isn't ;)i've done the approach in FS twice now. once in the PSS airbusand once in the 767te A320 ride was with a severe headwind just within limits(wind 01013G21) made it quite hard and forced me a go-around when the gust smacked me off LOC about 1,5 dots... :-lolsecond attempt was succesive though. In the 767 however the winds were quite calm, VRB02 with the wind at the beginning of rwy 05 were 2knots more along the axis so 't was more of a job(In FS) to put her down right on the marks to halt the plane fast enough.i must admit, the LDA i used is coming from the Flight Dispatcher by R.v.Leest and W.Beskow. and i just checked on the aerodrome chart and it indicated 8140' or 2481m beyond threshold. Is this still accurate? it dates from 14sep '01(cycle of january 2002)Also did a small check on the terrain, the little valley nort-east of the end of rwy05, doesn't that really give gruesome x-winds when there is a strong norther wind blowing into the valley?(valley converging winds)?Hope to fly there irl one day... must be excitingCheers
December 15, 200223 yr I have not been participating in FS for quite a while (almost 1 year). Actually, this is my first visit to Avsim in a long time. As you can see from the above "member date", I only just today re-activated an Avsim sign-on with a whopping 1 post to my credit...this one. There are various reasons for none participation. The reasons are largely not what has been speculated. Mostly because I have too many non-hobby activities now that leave no time to participate. The biggest being a recent move. Needing to pay for that move and new house, cutting out low-profit/high-time activities was essential **see disclaimer **. :-wink2**disclaimer** The previous statement contained a large amount of truth and small amount of sarcasm. An offensive tone toward any group, groups, individual or individuals is not implied. At least you are all in good company. I have even neglected my friends Laurent, Wade and Pedro. I only yesterday sent them my first communication in many months, only to find that Laurent's family is multiplying by leaps and bounds! Now that would be a good excuse for non-participation. Except that my two kids have been walking and talking for a while, so I can't use that one. Although an interesting debate could center on how much time twins would take versus two older rugrats, 3 years apart, and always fighting. For the future, we (meaning myself and the just mentioned friends) will be discussing the possibilities. I can't say for sure what, if anything, will be forthcoming from these discussions. We had a new project in mind after wrapping up the last PIC update. I think perhaps we can pick up were we left off on that new project and move it into whatever new platform Microsoft offers. And now, just like this interesting icon, I fly off into the night!Eric :-bat
December 15, 200223 yr "and out of the shadow, he stepped...."welcome back ol' friend. glad to see you've been abel to find us back ;)i could say i got ZILLIONS of question to ask you but well... let me simply respect your life and not bother with them :)Hope you have a nice staybtw: since when does AA operate thos new X-type bats? never ever seen those in the skies... :-pCheers
