Squawkbox 2.3b4 freezes... can't get PIC online anymore

Featured Replies

Hi,Since a few days I -suddenly- have the following problem:I am able to start Squawkbox (version 2.3b4) running via WideClient, file a Flightplan and connect to VATSIM. I get connected, RW pops up, but after a few seconds SquawkBox freezes...From my taskmanager and firewall status, I can see that SB is eating up almost all cpu cycles and is listening in (and receiving bytes, from ...????) I tried to connect to another server, but no difference. I also tried without Roger Wilco, but also no result.I am running Widefs 5.41 and FSUIPC 2.975.Any help would be appreciated.Regards,Nico KaanEHAMhttp://home.planet.nl/~nwkaan

Lose the firewall.

Hi,Thank you!, that helped. Mysterious...Worked ok for over a year. However, I don't want to be on line without a fire wall, so I cleared the SB entries from my fire wall and created new rules on the fly. So far it's still working okay.Kiek

Kiek,You're also using an old version of SB. Build 5 is current.

Dean,I know, that's on purpose. I am running SB on a second PC via WideClient, so there is no real need to go to the FS2002 version with HostSB.Do you think I would benefit from going to version 5, in my configuration?Kiek

Nico,I don't have the software firewall issue because I am behind a router with a built in firewall. But, I too run build 4 with my WideFS setup. I have found no reason to go to build 5 except for the added ability to get the chat line to work on the host machine. But I am sticking with build 4 till the new version of SB comes out, whenever that may be.I owe you a big THANK YOU. I just spent a lot of time with your web page displayed on my second monitor as I finished setting up my new computer. I overhauled my FS settings and also downloaded the latest version of the CH Manager which I had not been using. Your web site was of tremendous value to me over the last two days. I also downloaded your CH Map file and then made adjustments to satisfy my preferences before saving it as my own. The time you took to set up your site was a huge help to me. I also grabbed a couple of your other files. I will try them out next time I get to LPMA.I recall someone here mentioning that they have their speedbrake set as an axis. Have you tried that?I noticed from your screenshots that you are still using the default overhead bitmap. I just emailed you the updated one that moves the left post about 50% closer to the left edge of the screen. Back up your existing bitmap and try give it a try.THANKS again!

Hi Michael,Thank you for your information about build 5. I'll also wait for SB3. Yesterday I faced a freezing SB again. Losing the fire wall did not help, this time. In the simclients forum I saw another post of someone with the same problem. To me it looks like a sideeffect of a server software change or maybe the latest version of widefs has introduced it or, ... i really don't know. Hope somebody has a clue. It's very annoying not to get on line. However, it gives me more time to work on my web site ;-)I am glad my site was useful to you. That's why I made it for in the first place, I believe in sharing of information. From your message I conclude that you are now also positive about CH Control Manager?I have defined one of my axis as Speedbrake indeed(!), there already was some text about that at my site. Now I have add screenshots of the necessary assignments in Control Manager. You can find it in the Yoke section of my Flightsimulator page.Thank you for making me aware of another overhead bitmap.NicoEHAMhttp://www.nicokaan.nl/

The bitmap is now there, my mail service went down overnight and I was just now able to get it out of my 'outbox'.I already had your settings for the speedbrakes from your map file. The issue I have with it is that it is either nothing or all (I am not complaining mind you). From what I remember, someone has it set as a true axis giving full incremental control of the handle as you have with the throttle. That's what I was referring to.

Hi guysI also have now mysteriously developed this problem. SB was OK, then I came back to my computer and found that after about 5 seconds of SB connecting with one of the Vatsim servers, it then completely freezes.Like Nico I run 2.3B4 over Wide FS, with NO firewall (I switch it off, I think it causes too many RW problems). If anyone can help that would be great. So far I've tried running the beta 5 version & rebuilding the SB.ini file..... without any success.

Agreed. B5 is a P.O.S. B4 over WideFS is the only way to be.

Me, I prefer B5 running on the second monitor. :)Different strokes for different folks, gang.cz

I had that freezing problem too. When I shut down the firewall it worked, but now I am getting freaky messages while flying?"However, I don't want to be on line without a fire wall, so I cleared the SB entries from my fire wall and created new rules on the fly. So far it's still working okay."Can U explane how u did that?
