February 27, 200422 yr Here is an encounter with AI traffic, comparing my TCAS response with that of a certain other commercial add-on TCAS unit. Which do you think is operating properly? http://www.sls.csail.mit.edu/ilh/fs/tcas/head-to-head/01.gif"Adjust Vertical Speed, Adjust"http://www.sls.csail.mit.edu/ilh/fs/tcas/head-to-head/02.gif"Adjust Vertical Speed, Adjust"http://www.sls.csail.mit.edu/ilh/fs/tcas/head-to-head/03.gif"Adjust Vertical Speed, Adjust"http://www.sls.csail.mit.edu/ilh/fs/tcas/head-to-head/04.gif" "http://www.sls.csail.mit.edu/ilh/fs/tcas/head-to-head/05.gif"Clear of Conflict" This is an example showing a strengthening don't climb RA, when I was a bit slow to react (intentionally). With proper reaction, the initial RA (don't climb > 2000fpm) should have been enough to maintain separation.Beta testing is about to begin. Please don't request to be added to my beta team. I already have more than enough testers. Hopefully testing won't take very long.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
February 27, 200422 yr Excellent work, Lee :)http://album.atomic-systems.com/showPic.php/23664/banner.jpg Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
February 27, 200422 yr Hi Lee, how are things? Looks good, is that for the new FS2004 version of the 767 or an update for the 2002?
February 27, 200422 yr Joe, that is an upgrade of Lee's existing TCAS unit. It will be both FS2002 & FS2004 compatible.
February 27, 200422 yr "Which do you think is operating properly?"Er... definitely not the grey one, Lee.Which program is giving the "Adjust Vertical Speed...."? Is this an optional callout? Why is the first pic (LHS) showing a red target, but its relative altitude is a relatively safe 1300'? My notes indicate RA's only pop up if the relative altitude is less than 930 feet (Even less at lower altitudes).I assume a Clear Of Conflict aural or a switch from a red to yellow target would make the coloured scale disappear?Do you have the TSIM program?Cheers.Ian.
February 27, 200422 yr Adjust Vertical Speed is an optional callout - it is listed in the CO 777 manual as being a TCAS alert callout.
February 27, 200422 yr "Adjust Vertical Speed, Adjust" is a TCAS II v7 callout. v6 used "Monitor Vertical Speed" in the same situation, I believe. v7 uses "Monitor Vertical Speed" in some circumstances.1300' isn't safe if we're climbing rapidly, eh? TCAS analyzes all intruders for threat (red) and potential threat (yellow) status, regardless of altitude. You can imagine that if you're climbing at +5000fpm and an intruder is descending at -5000fpm, the spread at which an RA or TA can fire can be quite high. TCAS analyzes the encounter geometry, taking consideration own and intruder vertical rates.1200' is only relevant to displaying "proximate" targets (solid diamonds).Lee Hetherington (KBED)
February 27, 200422 yr Ian, yes I do have the TSIM (MOD 2) program. I match its behavior exactly. It says "Adjust Vertical Speed, Adjust" :-)Lee Hetherington (KBED)
February 28, 200422 yr Thanks for the tips, guys. I think I'd better throw out my old notes ;-) (Just found "Adjust Vertical Speed, Adjust" in my new notes)Cheers.Ian.
February 28, 200422 yr fantastic, Lee!Your TCAS really enhances the realism of our believed PIC767. Did you finally get call-outs from Boeing in stead of Airbus voices? Thanks again for your work.regards,Andreas Hermes(EDDH)
February 28, 200422 yr Don't worry, no Airbus voices. I don't want the Terminator telling me what to do.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
February 28, 200422 yr I'll be back.
