September 7, 200322 yr Hi,I want to use SB in a 2nd computer.I have SBRelay, do I need anything else ? Squawkbox is installed in the second PC (wideclient running).thanks,Ulisses
September 17, 200322 yr You don't need SBRelay Ulisses. When you install SB tell it you are running FSF98 or 2000, basically you want the older version of SB running, you don't need SBHost or SBRelay.I started with FS98 so still have SB 2.3.4 (or whatever it was) installed and it works a treat. So you end up with FS running on the 2nd PC and SB, RW, and any other add-ins such as weather programs, running on the 'Net connected PC.If you are running Win200 or WinXP and a firewall you *may* have a little 'gotcha' that prevents you seeing other players, if so email me for the fix :-)[email protected]
September 23, 200322 yr You will need FSUIPC (Server PC) and WideFS ( Client PC ) and if you are using FS2004 you will need SBRelay.Vulcan is right when he says you can dump SBHost though.regards,DaveVancouver
September 23, 200322 yr Author Ok,I'm using wideserver, wideclient, FSUIPC, but I need to use SBHost to be able to open SB software, maybe because I'm using the last SB version. Thanks,Ulisses
September 23, 200322 yr I'm at work right now but SB Version 2 beta 3 rings a bell. With this verison you don't need SBHost. In fact I have never used it.regards,Dave
September 23, 200322 yr Ulisses you do NOT need the latest version of SB when using Widefs and therefore do not need SBHost. It is a while since I reinstalled SB when I moved to WinXP so cannot remember the exact setup but as I posted earlier when you run the setup exe for the latest version of SB you can choose which version of FS to install to, choose either FS2000 or FS98 and that will set up the earlier version of SB (V2.3.4) which is the one you need.Once SB is installed you can then install SBRealy for use with FS9 but don't ask me about SBRelay because I haven't been there yet :-)HTH
October 12, 200322 yr Hi Guys,Scenario 1On Main computer I have SBrelay1.2, FS2004 set for MP, FSUIPC 311 fully registered, SBHost.dll, and SB 2.3.5All works well with MP showing other VATSIM aircraft.Scenario 2On Main computer I have SBrelay1.2, FS2004 set for MP, FSUIPC 311 fully registered, Wideserver 6.10 set for TCP/IP addressOn 2nd computer I have Wideclient 6.10, SB 2.3.4 set for TCP/Same IP address. All works well with connection to VATSIM, etc. However I can't seem to get MP to show other VATSIM aircraft. Has anyone achieved this? If so how?CheersIan
October 12, 200322 yr Hi Ian,This is my setup, I only tried FS9 and SBRelay on the ground last night and haven't flown yet but I could see other 'players' and they could see me.2PCs, setup worked fine for FS2k2.PC1 connected to the InternetPC2 no direct connection to the internet.PC1 runs Zone Alarm, RW, SB 2.3.4, FS Meteo and Wideclient plus all the other 'odds & sods'.PC2 just runs FS2k2 & FS9 both with Wideserver and FSNav, CSL a/c in both FS2k2 and FS9.This setup worked for FS2k2 with Vatsim and both versions of FS got weather from FS Meteo.I wondered about where SBRelay should go and installed it on PC2 along with the flight sims. Now I can't remember the exact order I started things but I think it wasStart FS9 then start SBRelay.Start FS MP session and use 127.0.0.1 as the IP address, join the SBRelay session.Start Wideclient on PC1 and then start SB, leave the IP address blank and SB finds the SBRelay session and off you go :-)If you are using 2 PCs you don't need SBHost. Two thoughts and some questions. You do have the CSL folder in FS9aircraft don't you?Do you have a firewall running? Is the 2 PC setup new? Have you had it working with FS2k2 in the past?If the answer to the last 3 questions is yes-yes-no then try the setup with FS2k2 first if you can.If the answer to the last question is 'yes' then I can only assume it has something to do with SBRelay, either where you installed it or how you are using it.HTH
October 12, 200322 yr Hi Dave (Vulcan),Thanks for your response. I am very pleased to hear that you can see other MP players and that they can see you. It must be a setup thing here.Mapping your PC2 to my Main, and your PC1 to my 2nd computer we have very similar setups. Shall use your terminology from here on.In answer to your questions:1. I do have the CSL folder in my FS2004/Aircraft on PC2 and CSL_ICAO.csv in Squawkbox directory on PC1. I used the beta CSL from http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/seang1/csl/I hope this isn't the problem.2. My PC's are connected by a Netgear RO318 Cable/DSL router. I have setup port openings on 23456 and 6037 directed to PC2, shall now try adding these directed to PC1.3. Yes the PC setup is all new. I shall reinstall FS2002 and see if I have joy under that. Good suggestion. Thanks and RegardsIan
October 12, 200322 yr Ian,I have no experience of routers but know some of them have built-in firewalls. As this is new setup for you it may be a firewall thing, especially if you use Win2k or WinXP.I spent ages trying to figure out why I couldn't see others when I moved from Win98SE to Win2kPro and then XP Pro.I could see others in SB TCAS and in spot view I could hear them, also in top down view I could see other callsigns but they were all in my location and then FS crashed. In desperation I installed FS2k2 on the 'Net connected PC and found a program ran that didn't when FS was run from PC2. I allowed that program access to the 'Net and to act as server through Zone Alarm and all was well.If you run WinXP turn off its firewall, it's a known problem, and get some other firewall. The program I had to manually enable through ZA was MSDirectPlay Helper, full name & locationC:windowssystem32dplaysvr.exeIt is a DirectX programIf you try FS2k2 first at least it eliminates SBRelay from the equation.Best of luck.PS Hope to be over your way later this month in Cross the Pond 5, should be fun :-)
October 13, 200322 yr Hi Vulcan,I installed FS2002 and have exactly the same symptoms - namely other MP Vatsim users aircraft are not showing on the screen in twin PC setup even though MP is showing them as joining on the banner across the top of screen. In FS2004 I get the same identification of other MP Vatsim users on SBrelay1.2, but no MP Vatsim users appear on screen under twin PC setup.I think it must be a CSL problem....?CheersIan
October 14, 200322 yr With advice from another forum I ran SBRelay 1.2, SBhost.exe, SB 2.3.5 Wideclient 6.10 on PC1, FS2004, Wideserver 6.10 on PC2, and Allelujah, I can now see other Vatsim aircraft and can even see them in FSNAV MP.One question, I seem to have lost the Ding-Dong and other sounds fromSquawkbox on PC1. SB2.3.5 makes the correct sounds when on the FS2004/Wideclient system, but not when on the SBrelay/SBhost/Wideclient machine. Does anyone have any suggestions on this. Thanks and RegardsIan
October 14, 200322 yr If I have problems with my setup (not running SBhost) Ian I will try the one you posted.IIRC there was a post a while ago about the loss of 'Ding-Dong' and I think it is a case of SB having to have the 'focus', if SB is not the visible program no Ding-Dong.
