SB Relay and FS9

Well, the first thing I'd try is to put them all on the same machine. If that works, we can work on getting fancy with two machines :-)Russell

Thanks for the replies:Please don't think I am crying wolf! This is not really a big thing to me. An additional mouse click or two is certainly acceptable to me for the pleasure derived.I do have a router and firewall, but the router is a recent revision to my system. I had the same reaction when on dialup service with a 56K Modum. I also have the same reaction with the firewall disabled.I have added all of the ports that I can find on the VatSim site, and recommended by Russell below. Still the same thing. The majority of the time when I click on the MultiPlayer Connect option, she connects. Occasionally I have to cancel and try again, usually two to three times. Rarely, I have to go back in and click on the host option, then disconnect, and then try to connect again.Again, no big thing, but it does make one curious. Thanks for your interest.RTH

>Hi Kyprianos,>>The ports you should be forwarding are actually these:>>TCP 47624 (Squawkbox, FS2002, SBRelay)>UDP 2300 to 2400 (Squawkbox, FS2002, FS2004, SBRelay)>UDP 6073 (FS2004, SBRelay)>>SBRelay uses both the "DirectX 7" and "DirectX 8" methods on>this page:>>[a>href=http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q240429&]DirectX:>Ports Required to Play on a Network[/a]>>I think 3782 and 3783 are for RW, but I haven't heard about>3290 and 6809. 23456 is not needed for SBRelay, only when>hosting with FS2004 or FSHost.>>RussellRussel please put these ports in the help section of SBRelay site. This is all that I had to do and I solved all my SBRelay & MSFS MP display problems.I opened these ports in both Norton Internet Security firewall and the firewall for my ADSL modem / router and now all works fine :-jumpyThanks for your help ;-)Kyprianos Biris :-cool[link:avsim.com/greece/hvacc]Hellenic vACChttp://vateud.org/images/vatsim-eurs.gifhttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg

Kyprianos,Great! Glad you got it working. So I assume you meant that you just had to use the ports I mentioned? At least to get SBRelay working...?Russell

If anyone else is still having a problem finding the SBRelay session from FS2004, I thought of another thing to try...In FS2004, on the Multiplayer connect window, click "Client Settings" and change the Connect port to be anything other than 23456. It doesn't really matter what you pick, but I'd suggest things like 23457, 24000, 1000, 2000, etc. If it's going to help, it'll probably work on the first number you try, but it's worth trying a few to be sure.If anyone tries this, please let me know what you find, as well as the details of the symptoms you were seeing before. Thanks!Russell

"Ackroyd2" made it as well this way. Hi all,I wish I could tell you why I have corrected the problem but most of the time multiplayer now works. I did a re-install (which I had done previously) and this time it usually works and if it does not I have to start as a host close it down and then it will join. It is a complete mystery to me as to why this time it was successful. I had made all the changes previously suggested but no cigar. A real mystery.Rob Ross

OK, I am having a few of the same problems. First off, my machine...Dell Inspiron 5150P4 3.1Ghz512MB RAMnVidia FX go5200 w/32MB RAM60GB hard disk, approx 30GB freeNow that that's out of the way, here's the problem. I can run FS9, but it slows down after a while. No big deal yet. However, as soon as I try to open a multiplayer session, the system bogs down. It consumes all of my system resources, and eventually I get a message saying that my system is low on virtual memory. I've increased the size of my paging file, but that didn't help. I've opened up all of the required ports on both of my firewalls.Next problem: SBRelay. When I open it, it connects, but again it consumes all of my system resources. Once it's open, my computer pretty much freezes up after about 30 seconds.Does anyone have any ideas? Microsoft doesn't, so any help would be appreciated...
