February 25, 200719 yr Hello all,I have a Fresnel lens and have decided on the important stuff such as distances and mounting method. One question I have is which way does it go?
February 25, 200719 yr I am not sure if it matters? Can you temporarily mount it and try, then turn it around and see which side looks best?John JohnMy first SIM was a Link Trainer. My last was a T-6 IIAMD Ryzen 7 7800 X3D@ 5.1 GHz, 32 GB DDR5 RAM - 3 M2 Drives. 1 TB Boot, 2 TB Sim drive, 2 TB Add-on Drive, 6TB Backup data hard driveRTX 3080 10GB VRAM, Meta Quest 3 VR Headset
February 25, 200719 yr I installed it both ways and each install offers a similar view. The difference between the two is the work involved and the image quality. With the ridges facing the viewer you will need to bend the lens toward you in order to compensate for distortion. Not a difficult task but when the pilot moves field of vision the image moves slightly. However if you limit head movement you will get the best detail. Installed the other way you do not need to worry too much about distortion. The image quality is still good but not as good the other way. Also as the pilot moves around there is no image movement. I decided to have the ridges away from me because the image quality is great and I can move my head without the image getting crazy.
March 10, 200719 yr I think..the rough edges of the grooves should be away from you. I believe thats the right way.BTW.. what fresnel do you have? What size and where did you get it..if you don't mind?thanksManny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
March 25, 200719 yr You made the right choice. Smooth area facing you. I have 3 screens, 32 incher for center = large fresnel and 2X 19 inchers for the sides. Very cool, perfect 100 percent emmersion. TH2GO is the way forward for this setup. Keith Sandford.
