November 4, 200223 yr Take it easy Bob :-)I think I explained myself quit clearly, I believe this scenery to be the finest work I've seen to date and this teams contributions extend far beyond this release. When I spoke of trend I wasn't pointing a finger at any particular team, at least that wasn't my intention. Wilco, Lago, SimFlyers and everyone else working on a project seems to be now striving for the scenery with the most gimmicks at the expense of reasonable file size and decent fps. Sad, but I guess this is what sells. It looks to me like we even have developers trying to out do each other releasing airports of which we already have one while we continue to wait for airports like KJFK, KBOS, and CYYZ, just to name a few.Yes I guess I'm one of those few that like addon airports to be modest representations of reality.CheersSteveCYYZ
November 5, 200223 yr Installed the files as directed...#1. The TB entry does not show up in the addon scenery list...the one where you create a flight....it is in the library list..named TB, however.Does this scenery replace the default entry in the create flight window ????#2...slide show...AMD 1800+/GF3Ti500vid...512meg ram#3...was flying up the river by the mill? The sound started to stutter...sounded like a motorboat...my entire system locked up..had to do a hardware restart....this may be something other than the scenery, however...I was flying the Dash 7..first version.
November 5, 200223 yr Hi Steve,Well, it sounds like the default FS2002 CYYZ should be just perfect for you then, because it *is* a modest version of reality. Extremely modest. Not quite as modest as default FS2K2 PEI is, but I won't go there (um, I *can't* go there by default)... :-)While I'm not a member of Flight Ontario anymore (by fate of life, not friendships), I certainly still share their vision and passion: to create the most detailed VFR scenery that can possibly be done within the limits of current flight sims and technology.Thunder Bay, I believe, is pretty darn close to that right now.I have no idea what other free or commercial developers are doing or why, but Flight Ontario has *always* been about the most detail possible in a scenery. We/they didn't/don't release airport addons... We/they release regional VFR sceneries. Because thats what turns our cranks. :-)Good thing, is: if it doesn't fit your own personal style, you certainly don't have to download it. Nothing wrong with that in the least, of course.Take care, Elrond"A musician without the RIAA, is like a fish without a bicycle."
November 5, 200223 yr <>I am taking it easy...no angst here. I guess you are focused on what Lago, Wilco, SimFlyers, and Team Ontario are doing, but the problem I have with your comment is the "everyone else". These groups you mentioned are not appropriate to indicate "everyone". They are very notable in that they spend more effort on "advertising", and they treat their "products" similar to the way busineses do. They make official "releases", with headline banners and such. Thus they are simpler to recognise. Also, their nature as teams mean they may offer far more content than you may find in a normal freeware offering. But...."everyone else"?All you need to do to see airports being developed in a more modest fashion is to enjoy the freeware offered daily in the library. That's where you'll find the "everyone else", and their contribution levels and levels of modesty vary from soup to nuts.Enjoy,Bob Bernstein
November 5, 200223 yr many cheers for detail....I'm vfr, and the more realistic, the better...eye candy baby....The scenery is great, but someone please read #46.
November 5, 200223 yr Help me with clarification. What do you mean when you say:<<"If it was up to me I would have come up with landclass modification to this part of Ontario and 100 MB download would be more like 2 MB ">>It IS up to you, and up to all of us....its a freeware contribution. You have every right to make a different freeware contribution, just as you described. Bob Bernstein
November 5, 200223 yr Very beautiful. I tried it, loved it..uninstalled it. When it has the full seasonal color range, Im gonna put it back. Dont like flying over gray rock in all but summer :)Maybe that is what canada looks like in the winter though??! (doh!);-)Eric AND
November 5, 200223 yr Hi Dave, sorry you are having trouble. I don't know about the addon list, I guess I never look at it. Indeed, when you install the scenery, you'll no longer see the default, so I just created a flight out of Thunder Bay, and there I was.Its always intriguing how different systems work differently. course, settings are numerous and will create huge differences in performance even when using similar hardware. My process is one slower than yours, the xp1700+, and I only have 256mb of ram...mine is ddr ram, pc2100. I've got a radeon 64mb...2 year old vid card. I'm running at 32bit with xga resolution. My performance did have some stutters, but mostly smooth 17-20fps, and no lockups. Bob Bernstein
November 5, 200223 yr just pretend its white :)Do they get much snow on that side of Lake Superior????On the other side..yikes...200+++ inches/year
November 5, 200223 yr Thank you for your post and takeing the time to reply in the way that you did. The only thing I can say is thank you!. The frame rate hit a CYQT seem to be due to the macro's used to make the custom ramps but we could not find a better way to do the custom ramps at CYQT (macro's can kill frame rates as they run on ones CPU first) It seems that with in reason one can put as many 3D objects on the screen almost with out limit as long as you are carefull with your mesh textures and all meshes(3D objects) are done in 3DS Max or gmax. Dan.
November 5, 200223 yr Hey ElrondI live near it. Get to take the camera and enjoy the activity their often so as you can amagine I can't stand the CYYZ that comes with FS2k2. Rarely fly it it's so bad. So I started my own a while back. Here's a couple pics of the early stages I took a while back.I call it "Pearson Project 2003". It will be modeled in gmax and the NEW Phase. Not much detail here. :-lolHey, I just got tired of waiting. :-)SteveCYYZ
November 5, 200223 yr tcreagh2Hi Dave...regarding the "TB" entry...have a close look at the instructions...after you've extracted files and fired up FS2002...go to MENU/SCENERY LIBRARY/click on ADD SCENERY and in the next window (after pointing to the scenery above) type in TB in the "SCENERY AREA TITLE" window and click OK and TB will be seen in the sceneries list...we are NOT referring here to the "CREATE A FLIGHT" window."Does this scenery replace the default entry in the create flight window?"...negative.Your sound problems are not related to this scenery.Hope this helps Dave.Ted CreaghFlight Ontario
November 6, 200223 yr Hi Ted,Yes, that is exactly what I did....Clicked on ADD Scenery...Typed TB in the area title...browsed to the directory I set up...And it is listed in the scenery list at that point...'Where I don't see it is when I'm trying to set up a flight...Usually, add on scenery is listed in the Search Addon to find the airport and set it as the flight starting point....there is no entry there. In the normal search area to create a flight, where you can choose countries, states, cities, etc...there is an entry for Thunder Bay...and when I choose this, it appears the new scenery is there, as I have mills with smoke, etc...I think I'm still not making this clear....Here are some screens...maybe I'm a bit confused as to how I set up my flight.>tcreagh2 >Hi Dave...regarding the "TB" entry...have a close look at >the instructions...after you've extracted files and fired up >FS2002...go to MENU/SCENERY LIBRARY/click on ADD SCENERY and >in the next window >(after pointing to the scenery above) type in TB in the >"SCENERY AREA TITLE" window and click OK and TB will be seen >in the sceneries list...we are NOT referring here to the >"CREATE A FLIGHT" window. >"Does this scenery replace the default entry in the create >flight window?"...negative. >Your sound problems are not related to this scenery. >Hope this helps Dave. >Ted Creagh >Flight Ontario
November 6, 200223 yr Hi Dave,As an end-user observer like yourself, I'm not sure what the problem might be. If you put in Thunder Bay or CYQT using the "Search Places" option of that dialog, the airport is listed as usual. Why, if you can easily find the airport and startup there or jump there during a flight (which is the only option of that dialog I've personally ever used), would it matter if its listed in the "Search Addon Scenery" option? Is there some attraction or benefit for that option that I fail to see? Just curious.Regardless of the reason, it shows up in both places on my machine. Not sure why its not on yours:http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dc924b611572e51.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dc924c0117c8149.jpgGood luck,Elrond"A musician without the RIAA, is like a fish without a bicycle."
