August 12, 200322 yr Well, I started ordering parts. Here is what I have so far:RAM:http://www.crucial.com/Store/Order/CartDetail.aspMobo:http://www.pcrapids.com/home.asp?pw=y&pwl=...MotAsuSock01884CPU:http://www.compuhq.com/bo28ghzinpe4.htmlHow am I doing so far? Can anyone suggest some adquate cooling for this CPU? I still need a case and a harddisk. I've been eyeballing the WD 80 gig 7200 rpm 8 meg cache at Best Buy. Anyone have any opinions on that? Thanks for any help and/or comments.Pieter
August 14, 200322 yr You might try Zalman for your cooling...http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/intro.htm
August 14, 200322 yr I've always believed that Zalman makes top rated cooling solutions. So much so that I recently purchased one of their CNPS7000A-AlCu heatsink/fans. Got it home and tried to install it in my A7N8X based system inside a standard Lian-Li PC-65 case. No go. The heatsink is very large, and interfered with the PSU. I begrudgingly returned the Zalman for a refund. While this Zalman heatsink/fan looks to be a terrific cooling solution, make sure you have enough real estate in your case. I would think that a standard full size tower would work just fine, but a mid size case may have problems.Good luck,(Edited for typos... still looking for a keyboard that can spell correctly :-) )
August 16, 200322 yr Pieter - I'd order the CPU with the Intel HSF. The stock Intel unit is really a very good one. You won't need any extra cooling and you'll get the advantage of the full 3-year CPU warranty. I'm running a P4 2.2 with a 500Mhz overclock on the Intel HSF and there is no heat problem at all. The WD drives are good choices. I've used WD for years and never had a failure. I have five of them in this machine now (120,120,60,20,20).Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. Klaatu barada nickto.
August 16, 200322 yr Looks good so far, I just started up my "new" computer.I have an Intel 865PERL m/b running a P4 2.4 GHz @ 800 FSB. The stock HSF seems to be working real well without too much noise. In addition I bought a Radeon 9500 Pro (9700 & 9800s where too much stratch for me :-)) with a 2 x 256 MB kit of DDR400 ram. It runs FS2002 quite nicely!Take care,-CJ Starr
August 17, 200322 yr Here is the computer I am getting; Antec TRUE BLUE 480watt quiet power supply with dual BLUE smart fans, an Intel 875P chipset mb, P4 3.2GHz with the usual trimmings, Zalman Copper Heatsink w/Air Shroud, Quiet 8cm Blue/Red Light Fan, Artic Silver 3 compound, 1024MB Corsair PC3500-XMS DDR433 CL2 Extreme memory with heat spreader, 128mb ATI 9800Pro with Buss-Cool PCI slot fan system and two 160GB Seagate 8MB Cache SATA Drives in Striped RAID Array. Monitor is going to be a Viewsonic 21.3" LCD (with a 25ms believe it or not). This system is gonna hopefully kick FS9 where it hurts. And people swear by Dell's XPS system..ha, what a joke that thing is (along with there outsourced overseas tech support) Eric
