Hi,I desperately need help!I upgraded mu cpu from Pentium IV 2 GHz to 3.2 GHz. Thus I had to change motherboard (now a P4P800-E) and RAM (now 1 Gb). I have a SB Live sound card, an ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128 Mb video card, Windows ME and FS2002.A strange problem occurs when I shift to the external views (S key): after a couple of seconds after I press S, the engine sound disappears if I use FS default aircraft, only if I give full thrust I can hear the spooling. There is no way to have it back unless I quit FS. BUT the big problem is that if I use 767 PIC (that is the only airplane I use), after pressing S the engine sound is replaced by a tremendous and very loud 'buzz' that needs an immediate speakers volume turn-down. Agian no way to eliminate it, except by quitting FS.Everything else seems to be working fine, I reracked and tested the sound card several times and no problems are found. I also reinstalled everything, but no solution.Another problem I have is that when I toggle from FS to Windows, when I go back to FS the scenery is replaced by 'all black' and it takes quite some time of changing views to get it back.Anyone could illuminate me on how to solve the problem? Thanks a lot for any input.James

James,When you put in your new board and chip did you re-use the hard drives with the same data or did you completly stat over??I upgraded awhile back also and I was thinking that data on the hard drive would run fine with a new chip and board. And for the most part it did just except with FS, why I am not sure. Some of these real tech guys could explain it better, but if you did not re-format and start over I believe there will be problems with certain software programs.Backup your stuff and re-format if you did not originally do that and I am sure that will solve you problem.Sorry I could not help more.

I assume you didn't reformat your diskdrive and reinstall the OS! If not, you probably have conflicting drivers trying to run your new MOBO with drivers for your old MOBO.At a minimum, you should install the latest MOBO Controller Chip drivers for the new MOBO.I would also try reinstalling directx9.0b.W. Thank you for your replies. Unfortunately I reformatted the hard disk and reinstalled everything, including mobo drivers, and all is working correctly with other applications. If I don't go to external views (keys S or CTRL+S) or even have full screen view (key W), everything works right. There is something FS doesn't like when I switch to those views.

I don't know of anything specific that the flight simulator doesn't like. It could be a combination of WinME, drivers for ME, and your hardware setup including BIOS settings. It is unfortunate you didn't update to WinXP during this evolution. During FS2004 beta testing, I tested using Win98SE and WinXP. While the FPS were nearly the same, the fluidity of FS2004 was much better under WinXP. I was using the same computer dual booted with both OS.Have you run the directx diagnostic to see if it shows any problems? Press Start, Run..., type dxdiag, OK. Let the diagnostic stabilize, review the version installed (9.0b recommended), select the display tab, ensure Directdraw, Direct3d, and AGP Accelerations are enabled. If grayed-out, reinstall the MOBO controller chip drivers. Run the Directdraw and Direct3d tests and note any errors. You might also run the audio tests.W. Sieffert

SB LIVE and first Generation Audigy = bad idea I have both of these cards and they are 100% grief... Ive had nothing but problems with Both that Creative's tech support have been unable to fix and im pretty good at fixing stuff in my rig (built over 10). One snaps and crackles and the other maxes out my volume slider. (I bring the slider down and it creeps right back up to max volume) I suggest an Audigy 2 (Not an LS) and if you cant afford that type of card right now im pretty sure that AC97 6 channel onboard sound is pretty good until you can afford one. Which is supposed to be standard issue on your asus P4P800 (which i am using as well) (Then again did you disable the onboard sound in the bios?)Hope these comments help
