September 21, 200520 yr Hey everybody,I got a new GeForce 7800 GTX 256 MB PCI Express card for my PC. Wow I really enjoy it. My on board VC would max out at 20-22 FPS with settings scaled down and 3D clouds 6-8 FPS not much fun for an IFR pilot.NOW I get 70's FPS, in heavy clouds 50's and sometimes when clouds are all around when paning view around 20's but still very smooth and returns 30's 40's when I stop paning around. I have all of the settings maxed out on everything 1600X1200X32 the max on my PC, 50's-60's at large airports on the ground and 70's on approach. Take in consideration this is a gateway right off the shelf at an Office Depot. The card suggest that you have 400 Watts of power min but mine is 300 Watts.P4 3.2 Ghz HT1 MB of DDR Ramalso a new: Sound Blaster Aud. September 21, 200520 yr Yup, the Geforce GTX is an awesome card. I got two of them in SLI mode on my new rig; not so helpful for FS9, but games look real stunning (in high resolution at highest graphics settings). If you want to give your card a real workout, wait for the release of F.E.A.R.ricardo
September 21, 200520 yr I just went for the GeForce 7800GT after my ATI X800XT card started having overheating problems, (Of course right after the warranty expired). It seems like a good card but there is one problem, (That others have reported too with it) Anti-Alias settings on anything less than 8XS doesn't look as good as my ATI did at 4X, the problem is setting it at that blanks out the preview screen on startup. (I have simular issues on other apps as well. That's with both the driver that came with the card Forceware 77.77, and the new 80 series forceware. I think I may try an Omega driver. If not I can live with it!! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
September 21, 200520 yr Author I have to say after being disappointed for so long since FS 2000 came out with P2 400, 256 mb, and Viper V770 card that could not hardly run it and FS 2002 way scaled back and don't even think of putting FS 2004 on that system. I'm content to after having the FS 2004 for last x-mas but could not run it until April when I got my new system. I'm happy can't wait for FS 2006. I hope I can run that on this system LOL.
September 21, 200520 yr Got my BFG 7800GTX over the weekend.Great card isn't it :)I do find tho that you need to max out the cards settings in order to get stellar quality in FS9.
September 23, 200520 yr Fantastic Card, I've gone for a 550 watt supply, super charged cooling fans and 78.03 Nvidia drivers guru3d.com. Super quality, very smooth, very very little stuttering for appearing scenery!, only a small increase in FPS though with evrything maxed out at 1600 x 1200 x 32.BTW I cannot over emphasize the importance of some good fans ( 4 in my system!)Best Wishes,Chris
September 24, 200520 yr >Got my BFG 7800GTX over the weekend.>Great card isn't it :)>>I do find tho that you need to max out the cards settings in>order to get stellar quality in FS9. >>>Yeah, true, great card: but even this card is no match for simflyers Frankfurt airport. Loaded EDDF up, all settings maxed, with the PMDG 747-400; lol, and got about 3 fps. ricardo
September 24, 200520 yr Hi Ricardo,Sorry to hear this, there is soething seriously wrong, I dont have simflyers EDDF, but I do have there KORD. At 1600 x 1200 x 32 evertything maxed out, I get 26 FPS average with traffic at 55%.Best Wishes,Chris
September 28, 200520 yr I wonder how this card would go against the Radeon X850XT ?? September 29, 200520 yr Unfortunately, I don't know of any sites with FS9 benchmarks but on practically all other games, the GeForce 7800GTX *significantly* outperforms the Radeon X850XT.Take a look here:http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2451&p=13http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.as...=7800gtx&page=7On the one hand, it's a bit unfair to compare the two since ATI's real contestant against the 7800GTX is the R520 (which isn't out yet) but on the other hand, it's ATI's fault that the R520 has been significantly delayed handing NVIDIA the crown for quite a few months (a lifetime in the video card market).Hope this helps.Edwin
September 29, 200520 yr I really don't think that we will see the true performance of these new cards until they release a 64bit version of Flightsim.Regards,Ralf.. September 29, 200520 yr Dear Ralf,Not implying that your statement is in any way incorrect, but what makes you say that?Edwin
