March 11, 200323 yr I cannot get Activesky 1.5 to work on my computer. I tested this out to see if active sky was connecting and getting results from the internet which it was. It got the weather, works fine for about a minute or so, then the sky goes all foggy and cannot see much. It is like flying in heavy fog conditions. Yet Active sky is connected to the internet a I flew in windowed mode to see if it was connecting and it was. If I go and clear the weather in FS2002 then what activesky picked up works once again for a short while then goes all foggy again. Any ideas of what's causing this? As I do know if your not connected to the interent Active sky does not work.
March 11, 200323 yr Hello,Uncheck the VATSIM in ActiveSky options, there is an other topic explaining this problemEmileEBBR Emile EBBR Z590 Aorus Elite, i9-11900K 3.5Ghz Nvidia RTX 5070, 32 GB Mem, SSD 3 Tera , 3 monitors Win11 Pro X64 LM P3D V6.1 Little Nav Map Hifisim Nvidia 591.44
March 11, 200323 yr This program is limited. I tried from Hawaii and the weather works fine. But try here in NZ and it does not, so think this limits this program, unless you pay for it, as I am using the free version which from NZ is useless and cannot update the weather. Think I will go back to fsmeteo again as at least I can download and use weather here in NZ, but with Activesky this is to limited, so why bother even with the paied version because it wont work from here whereas fsmeteo does and updates nicely.
March 11, 200323 yr I know this program is download the weather for where I live and displays it, but active weather refuses to use it. Think this program is setup for only areas where there are large populations etc, which makes it limited to anyone living in a small country to use. I don't have problems like this using FSmeteo. Also the winds alof don't work from here as it cannot download them. Does it only download wind aloff if you live in the USA?
March 11, 200323 yr Hi Dennis,I am a support person for AcitveSky and I am going to try to help you out here. I hope I am right in saying that you are using the free version of ActiveSky. Your first issue seems to be the "fog". Well it just might be that the visibility is that low for the area you are flying in. You have gone to Hawaii and flew in clear weather so I know your computer and FS is set up correctly. Post a METAR that shows up as fog and I'll see what it shows.Being from a small country has nothing to do with any of this. AS downloads weather from NOAA, so if you are near a station the weather will download. You are correct in saying that the free version always needs an Internet connection. List some ICAOs for NZ and I bet AS will download the weather just as well or better than FSMeteo would.International winds are handled a little different. Winds outside the USA are simulated.Keep in mind that this is a free version. The main functions do work well, but the pay version has more options. Please post more messages and we will try to help you out.Hope this helps,Jim
March 11, 200323 yr I tried the create a flight and made a new flight again, and cleared out all the weather beforehand, and before running the flight. Does weather allready in FS2002 prevent it from working properly? As clearing the waether before hand seemed so far to work, and was flighting around for about 10 minutes, or so to try it and no fogging as yet.
March 12, 200323 yr Yes that was a good thing to do! Keep flying and see if you have any other issues or questions.Hope this helps,Jim
March 12, 200323 yr tried it FS2002 again with Active sky and find now it does not work again. Tried creating another flight and clearing the weather like I did before, but now this is not even helping. I have foggy views again:Here is my screen with the Meteo showing from Active sky.
March 12, 200323 yr It looks to me like there is a conflict of weather. Try clearing weather again. When you do clear the weather do you get clear conditions until AS reloads itself?Hope this helps,Jim
March 12, 200323 yr Tried clearing the weather again and having Active sky update every minute to speed things up and what happens if I clear the weather, get no clouds till Active weather updates. I get the clouds, then it starts to fog over, so within about 20 seconds it is completely foggy. Went into the Weather again and looked and the visablitiy was about 1 kilometer. Just tried Hawaii had turbulence, no clouds even updating at two active sky updates at 1 minutes intervals. Then went to Miegs again had 1 minute updates, once again no clouds, but turbulence. Here is the screen dump of the weather at Miegs:
March 12, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi,I can't see the main screen, but it looks like you had a download error/timeout or an invalid METAR string which is why it is failing to update wx/vis properly. Try another airport it may work ok.. let me know.-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
March 12, 200323 yr Tried to other locations other than in New Zealand and works fine. None of them seem to work from New Zealand at all, or if they do it's not often. Don't know why Actrive Sky cannot use the Metar in NZ? Maybe don't update as often or something like other locations?
March 12, 200323 yr Maybe the resolution of metars expressing visibility in KM`s affects the freeware version as well.Any thoughts Damien? It sounds all too familiar.Incidentally in NZ there is pretty limited METAR coverage. You will only get the following:NZAA,S,37,01,E,174,48,7NZCH,S,43,29,E,172,33,38NZCM,S,77,52,E,166,58,8NZOH,S,40,12,E,175,22,50NZWN,S,41,20,E,174,48,12If the weather is foggy in one of those areas it will appear to extend for a long way until another wx area comes into range.Just a few thoughtsRegardsJim Cross
March 13, 200323 yr Hi guys,Firstly congratulations on a great product. Before buying ASky I had this exact same problem with the freeware version.I was in the market for a weather program and ASky was one reccommended to me,however I very very nearly went with FSMeteo because I figuered that(as has already been mentioned in this thread)if the trial version didnt work what good could the payware version be.I really think you guys should get this sorted out,as this situation is LOSE/LOSE!(you guys at AS miss a sale & I bet there are simmers missing a great weather program, all because the trial sucks)If it hadnt been for the recommendations of some friends on a trusted forum where I always consult before buying any FS product,I would have never have bought ASky.I can honestly say though(as was told to me)the problem is with the free version, buy Active sky you wont be dissapointed,it works great.Regards...Bart458
