December 21, 200322 yr Commercial Member Hello Everyone!I just wanted to keep you all informed on some issues found after release, and to let you know what I am working on...First, the WideFS connector and ActiveRadar install process is flawed, and I am working on a new installer program that should hopefully release in the next day or two once it is fully tested and working right. This affects WideFS users only.Next, there have been some problems with instant changes and severe wind shifts in some cases where there simply should not be any (due to the nature of AS2004 weather updates and features), so we can confirm that there is a problem somewhere that was introduced between our final beta version and release. I think I have a handle on it now, I just need to work it out and ensure things are working in all other areas as a result of the fix. I must also remind everyone that in some cases there is simply nothing that AS2004 can do prevent imperfect transition effects, due mainly to certain FS9 limitations and our inability to YET work around them fully. Also note that the Global Writes feature may be negatively effecting things in certain areas, so it is worth experimenting with that option OFF. Pete Dowson and I are also working on some new findings in the weather setting process which should lead to an enhanced FSUIPC and/or AS2004 update to make things much better. This is mainly in the winds department. A few Weather Center 2 users have also addressed their concerns about lack of a discount path. I must apologize to WC2 users for not having a solution available yet. I am working on the technical aspects of providing an upgrade version (with install-time WC2 verification) but there are some issues that need to be worked out. Please hold on a few days while I try to get this worked out for you.. I sincerely appreciate your feedback and your patience.A big thanks to Jim Skorna for helping out new AS2004 users with questions and technical issues, and for organizing problem reports for me. Without Jim I wouldn't be able to spend as much time on technical troubleshooting and fixes, which would result in much-delayed updates. So a very big thank you Jim! on behalf of everyone for enabling us to more promptly meet our customer's needs. And another huge thanks to the Beta Team, who put in tons of effort and enthusiasm into the beta process to make AS2004 as solid and intuitive as possible. Thanks guys!!!Lastly, I really want to thank EVERYONE for your very positive and encouraging comments (the majority of them anyways!) and for your continued support. I appreciate the infrequent negative comments as well, and appreciate you bringing issues to my attention which need to be addressed. All things considered, I believe this release went fairly smooth despite a few problems found. These things will be worked out right away or as soon as possible, and as always, I will also be adding some improved functionality based on the suggestions and comments made here (within limits of course). In addition to any immediate fixes I'll be providing, I hope to have an official maintenance update available by mid-January at the latest. Thanks again everyone, and Happy Holidays!-Damian Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
December 21, 200322 yr Just wanted to say that I think ActiveSky 2004 is great! I got the new program yesterday (thanks for the discounted price for ActiveSky 2002 users!) and it seems to work great. Congratulations Damian, great product.Rudi Hiebert
December 21, 200322 yr Besides winds aloft at high altitudes, I have no other complaints with AS2004. Disabling GLOB writes is definately the solution I have found to eliminate or greatly reduce the disappearing cloud bank problem. With GLOD writes on it was almost like using wxRE 1.92 in FS2004.Thanks for the update, Damian.Keith
December 21, 200322 yr DamianAs a (former now) ActiveSky WxRe user I have to say what a great job you've done with AS2004. I took EagleSoft's Premier for a flight today - CYVR to CYXS with FSW 32 bit cloud set (100% 3D and Max density) and what a SMOOTH flight with heavy clouds and precipitation. I'm very impressed with the radar, flight planning importation, etc. Keep up your excellent contributions to the flightsim community.
December 21, 200322 yr Hi !This is a first class product !One question...when using the FSW clouds I getheavy flickering of the screen, which is eliminatedby unchecking render-to texture, will it be possibleto fix this ?Best RegardsEF
December 21, 200322 yr Nope, no solution to it.I believe it's caused when FSUIPC makes Weather in FS9.Sorry ;)JohnP 2.53 GHZ512 RAMWINXPGFORCE 4 128MB Ti4600http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewerhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/IMAGES/logo_mini.jpg
December 21, 200322 yr Thanks for your replyI read that PMDG advices not to uncheck the "render to texure"why ?EF
December 21, 200322 yr Sounds great Damian, and I'd like to echo your thoughts regarding Jim and the beta team's efforts! They are always courteous, helpful and give straight-up answers. That's very much appreciated! Also, a huge thanks to you too Damain. Without you, there would be no ASanything, and I'd still be having wind problems... (err, not sure that came out just right... ;-) ).All the best to the entire AS team for the holidays and for 2004! Thanks!Glenn
December 21, 200322 yr >Thanks for your reply>>I read that PMDG advices not to >uncheck the "render to texure">>why ?>>EFI can't remember the reason but if you go over to the PMDG forum I am sure I read in a post the reason.I also have this problem and just live with it, for now anyway :-)
December 21, 200322 yr Just wanted to say thank you to Damian, Jim and the Beta team for AS2.I look forward to the possible improvements mentioned.I used it for the first time last night, on line, for the Santa fly-in and was impressed. I had a few sharp wind direction/speed changes but not as many as pre-AS2 and I too could not get the radar to work (using 2 PCs)However reading Damian's posts on the radar issue and the one from Claus I got the radar working without having to edit the registry. When you run the radar connector from your mapped drive just make sure you point it to the modulesas2004 folder on the mapped drive and not the main Activesky folder. After the connector finishes THEN copy over the radar folder and DLL, not forgetting FSUIPC of course. There is no need to edit the registry, but you can check the KEY points to the correct place just for peace of mind.At least all that worked for Win XP Pro.If you have tried to install the radar before then uninstall the connector from 'add/remove programs' and delete the radar DLL and folder from FS before trying the above.A Merry, and white (if you fly in the right place :-)) Christmas to Damian, the AS team and users.Rgds
December 22, 200322 yr Author Commercial Member Hi all,I have released a new Wide FS Connector program (beta), please check the top of the forum. This is for WideFS users wishing to run ActiveRadar on the FS PC with AS2004 on the remote PC. This new version of the connector should "right" any problems with the installation, and offers a step-by-step install and verification wizard. This program does not apply to users running the standard single-computer installation. I am now focusing on some wind and cloud transitions issues as reported, and as stated, I expect to have a maintenance update release ready in Mid-January to incorporate some new processes which should improve things dramatically. We also have had some new findings in the FSUIPC department so more advancements should be available very soon. Those who have e-mailed me for various non-support issues and are awaiting an answer, please be advised that it may take a few days to get back to you. Things are extremely busy right now and I also need to break away from the computer for a day or two for Christmas and spending time with the Family. Please do not be offended if you do not receive a reply until after the 1st. Thanks for your understanding!Happy Holidays, take care all!Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
December 22, 200322 yr I would like to thank the team at HiFi for their work. I am still experimenting with how to best cope with winds that shift rapidly at altitude. It makes for quite a workout for the autopilot of my PMDG 737.I hope you guys can deal with this issue quickly.
