February 4, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi Max,Thanks for the input...We have a solution almost in place that does pretty much that, reducing upper winds to a maximum speed. There is also another option, counter-clockwise winds fix attempt that has proven to help significantly, but at the expense of potentially invalid wind directions at other-than-specified altitudes (3,6,9,12,18,24,30,34,39K). I.e. in-between FL240 and FL300 the wind directions will swing around up to 300deg (smoothly) to accomplish a counter-clockwise ascending wind layer transition (the root of FS9's wind bug). Furthermore, we are introducing a "disable upper winds" option for those who prefer to avoid FS9 upper winds entirely. Hopefully the other options will do the trick. BTW the initial pre-public beta will be coming very, very soon so stay tuned on the beta group :) Thanks Max...Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
February 5, 200422 yr Damian,I can't comprehend why you can put up with this "Bill" guy above. He probably thinks he is funny but in fact he is an insulting S.O.B. Show him the door ! :-fumeMichael J. Michael J.
February 5, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Bill,I am highly offended. You have ventured into the realm of abusive personal attacks, and this will not be tolerated. You are insinuating that Jim Skorna is lying about his experiences (as well as all the others who don't experience your problems?) all the while he works hard to help us identify and verify problems. There are dozens of problems reported that he has verified, did you care to read those posts too? I don Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
February 5, 200422 yr Well, last night I, or rather the winds aloft unfortunately managed to crash my PMDG 737-700.I made a flight from Zurich (LSZH) to Tunis-Carthage (DTTA).First of all the wind shifts during climb were nothing short of extreme, as is often the case in Europe. They changed direction 180 degrees almost every 30 seconds until I reached my cruise flight level of FL 390, Most of the time the trend indicator "worm" on the NG's ND screen was a clockwise or counterclockwise full circle. The reported winds at the different levels were not that different, varying only a few degrees a flight plan was loaded and route based wind smoothing enabled. the wind directions I got were pretty much off what the metar reported until I reached cruise altitude. Fortunately the autpilot was able to compensate for the extreme wind changes, saving the plane, but making for a more than nasty ride. Then on my way south, the reported winds were always around 225/03kts, weird for that altitude and not matching the metar, probably due to the wind smoothing being enabled, but I've never seen winds that slow at FL390.Then, as I got closer to DTTA, the 200 mile forced refresh killed me:winds flipped from 235/46 to 065/46 and back about 4 times in 15 seconds resulting in alternate stalls (78KIAS) and overspeeds (448 KIAS), the 737 spun out of control and broke up at 19'000 ft, at over 450 KIAS, and a descent rate of 11,000 fpm. At this point the aircraft was spinning at about 1 revolution per 2 seconds. Now don't get me wrong, I am not about to bash AS2004 or Damian for not fixing Micro$oft's infamous wind bug, Damian has done awesome things with AS2004 since the first betas! But methinks, other options for winds aloft should be considered, if feasible, even at the cost of realism. Perhaps just writing the same wind speeds and directions globally along the route, no matter what. Agreed, that would be quite drastic, but I am only talking about winds at the higher levels, flying against abrick wall at every station change tends to become a little frustrating after a while. Now, even as an AS2004 beta tester I have no clue whether that would even help overcome the M$ bug, I could even live with just the great weather depiction of AS without any winds at all or limited to a few kts speed, I just don't want to have my plane in pieces, nor do I want to be forced to fly with a clear weather theme all the time. But maybe I'll have to wait for FS2006 for that, since I am well aware that there is only so much Damian can do and so far he does do it very well.Best RegardsMax (Bern, LSZB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg

February 5, 200422 yr hi,don't understand who on this thread is banned and why...did i miss something? :-roll cheers, harald
February 5, 200422 yr HaraldObviously, the offending post is already deleted, but I think it's safe to assume the post was really crossing all the lines. Neither Damian nor Jim are quick to delete posts. Damian is usually very tolerant and accomodating, even towards very frustrated users that use harsh language and post unfair accusations. (See the earlier wind thread started by Crash_Lander, titled "Frank question to HiFi Sim regarding the winds issue?")Best RegardsMax (Bern, LSZB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg
February 5, 200422 yr hi max!ah..ok..couldn't follow whats goeing on here...btw, had more or less the same with wind aloft speed while flying from Toronto/Pearson to St.Maarten - 02kts at FL350...not a big deal but just odd...looking forward to next beta!cheers, harald
