High level temps still off with MR2 beta

Featured Replies

Still getting positive temperatures into the low 300's using the PMDG 737.However, if I slew up to FL350, the temperature reduces to a more normal one (about -20), but as soon as you turn slew mode off, the temperature shoots up to +5ish.Using As 2004 V1.2 Build 102.This is very strange, and like others, only started a couple of months ago. I don't think I've changed or updated any files since it started acting this way.-Phil

Hi Phil,I fly 744's and I can tell you that these air temperature differences are normal!! As you increase your mach number, the TAT will rise due to the fact that the air passing the temperature probe is causing the probe to heat up due to friction. There is a normal temperature difference between outside air temperature (commonly known as OAT or SAT) and Total Air Temperature (commonly known as TAT)The temperature on the Upper EICAS is "TAT". It is not corrected for ram heating effect (it shows outside air temperature plus the temperature due to ram air effect(mach heating)....hence the name Total Air Temperature). OAT/SAT (static air temperature) is found on 2/2 of the FMC progress page in most jetliners. Where does it come from? It comes from the same source as the TAT, but the aircraft's Air Data Computers modify it to remove the mach heating temperatue rise. Temperatures around mach 0.80 to 0.90 can cause as much as 20

Hi Phil,Devin explains the slew and TAT/SAT issues very well..It is common to see a ~25c jump in TAT compared to SAT when you're at "jet cruising speed". This is realistic. But if the problem is that even with a 25 deg jump considered, it is still too high, then we have a problem. There were several reports earlier (including yours) but all indications are that they have cleared up since MR2.If you can reproduce and document this for me I will try to reproduce on my end and hopefully get it fixed (if it indeed turns out to be a problem). A .PLN and currentwxsnapshot.txt would really help. Please send to [email protected]. Thanks a bunch for your feedback...-Damian

Hi Damian,This is what I have found last week. I understand the relationship of speed and TAT. If you notice below, the relationship of approx 27 degrees is a constant. The ODD thing is that AS2004 is reporting the SAT nearly 15 degrees warmer than either No Weather when cleared through FSUIPC or the Weather as reported by FS-9. If you note, the TAT relationship is basically the same, but at the LOWER SATs reported by AS2004, the TATs are a problem. I chose the three Mach speeds to show the trend of speed on TAT. I hope this helps.FL330 AS2004 reported average OAT -48C on Flight From KSLC to KTULWith AS2004 Weather LoadedSAT -34C -34C -34CTAT -5C -11C -17CMACH .785 .70 .60CLEAR WX THROUGH FSUIPCSAT -50C -50C -50CTAT -23C -28C -34CMACH .785 .70 .60 FS9 WXSAT -48C -48C -48CTAT -20C -26C -32CMACH .785 .70 .60Paul M."Big Sky---Little Bullet"---For All Other Impediments There's TCAShttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg

Hi Paul and all,Thanks for your feedback... This appears to again be the route-based wind smoothing temp issue which I still cannot re-produce! However, we have an exciting new development! We are currently privately beta testing a new build that eliminates the need for route-based wind smoothing entirely and permits smooth wind transitions with completely accurate winds according to the high-resolution data. So this issue is now obsolete. More details coming soon along with a public beta!-Damian

Damian!...That's indeed great news...Thanks so much for the great efforts and Great support!!!Paul M."Big Sky---Little Bullet"---For All Other Impediments There's TCAShttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg

Yes, this was indeed the 'problem'! Checked the FMC and it was only a few degrees off what the flight plan had (about -50 C), so alls good!!!Thanks alot for the info!-Phil

Hi DamianJust to echo Paul M's comment - it's a real pleasure to have such wonderful after-market backup/support. 'Twill be a major success for you if you do overcome this problem because all here are aware of just how hard you've fought to find the cure.Best regardsPaul Croft10 miles SE of EGLL
