Performance Problems

Featured Replies

For anyone who says ASv6 doesnt give you a performance hit well the pics should tell it all focus on the framerate in the upper right hannd corner and what the weather is doing. I cant figure out how you can go from 60 fps to 14 when ASv6 takes over I am even using 64x64 dxt clouds and one more thing. When my weather says overcast its not you can still see the ground. This stinks...

Oops heres the other pic of what happens when the weather takes over

Hi, What's is your complete system spec?-CPU, Ram, Video Cards, video cards setting.-Give me all your fs2004 setting-If you go on asg option button, what's is selected?Using lower resolution does not means better fps, on good system, lower size can lower frame rate, try 256x256 32 bits and 256x256 DXT.Can you save the flight , then close asv, load the flight what's will happend? When you clearing the weather, the frame will be higher, when the weather appears in fs2004, you will have a % frame rame hit depending on the cloud density metar and layers soometime it can have lower frame rate then others, depending on the metars.ThanksChris Willishttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg

Thanks for the quick response. My specs are AMD 2800 Nivdia 5500 OC card 1 gig ramThe Microsoft test says my system is in the top 22%The sim runs great even with payware birs like PMDG 737 but as soon as ASv6 loads up look out its not even flyable. I really havent tried the 256x256 clouds just thinking that if it cant run the low end clouds to the higher ones wouldnt work to well either hmmm Im outta ideas...

Hi,The clouds are causing a performance hit, as Chris mentioned... AS, real weather, or any other weather solution does the same thing. It is not related to anything but the rendering of clouds within FS.As Chris also mentioned, 64x64 may not be the best solution for all in terms of performance. Try the 256x256 32bit, you should still get better peformance than stock FS9.Other ways to increase performance: Decrease max visibility. Decrease max cloud layers, turn some sliders down in FS9 settings (especially sight distance and cloud draw distance). Also you should really consider turning down max frame rates to 25.... this is extremely recommended to improve consistent performance everywhere and give better overall visuals especially in reference to mipmaps.Which graphics card do you have? The Nvidias are known to be slow with cloud rendering. As for overcast and still seeing the ground.. there has been much discussion about this. With station-based weather, all stations influence the weather around you and this means that just because a station 15 miles north is reporting overcast does NOT mean it will be overcast at your present position. I.e. what if the station 5 miles west is reporting Clear? In addition, with the FS cloud rendering system there are limitations in how much coverage overcast actually gives. The overcast enhancement feature helps a lot but yes there are many times you are still going to see the ground especially when looking straight down (i.e. spot view) through the clouds. We are all hoping that FSX improves our capabilities here.Best,

Well I dont have any traffic going at all and I have smaller building and runway textures installed that really seemed to help alot.

Yep I agree with ya about the way weather is generated. I have my sliders about half way and as far as the weather goes my cloud draw is about 30 mi. and vis 60.

Hi, Your setting on fs2004 and Nvdia cards is needed here, If we don't have all information, it's really hard to increase frame rate. Antialasing with Nvdia cards are know to cause trouble when the clouds appears, since Fs2004 use antialsing for clouds that's decrease frame rate. How the Antialasing is? enabled in fs2004 and your video cards at the same time? or only from your video cards? at how much x? 2x, 4x, etc? Did you use the latest chipset driver for the motherboard? ThanksChris Willishttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg

Hi,Pricewatch lists your card as selling between 50-58 USD. That is really the bottleneck here. You are going to need to turn down your settings as suggested already. For example Cloud draw distance set to 30.If you keep with us, we will be able to continue to suggest things. It will be important to try one thing at a time and keep telling us your results. Also try to keep everything else the same.Edit: Also please notice that ALL 3 of us are posting at the same time!! No we don't live anywhere near each other!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg

A few days ago I touched the antiliasing in FS9 and also in the ATIControl Center for my Radeon 9800. The fps fell from 20/24 to 5, yes five, fps. I quickly put the values to zero or minimum.
