August 21, 200619 yr Okay, I've tried everything you suggested but the result remains the same: unless I import my Flightplan with ActiveSky or manually enter departure AND destination as "New Route", the clouds change back to normal Non-ActiveGraphics clouds (as in: out of the box Flight Simulator 2004-clouds) after I've been flying a while.Looks like unplanned cruising around just doesn't work with ActiveSky. At least for me it doesn't.
August 21, 200619 yr Hi Jigsaw,OK, I'll say it again: if ASG textures are correctly being submitted into FS04, then this is an impossible situation. There are no out of the box clouds to fall back to. Those textures are gone from FS04, never to return, never to be seen again, unless you restore them from a backup. Many users just fly around with no plans, even myself and things work just fine. Some suggestions:Submit some cloud textures into FS04 while it is closed. Then open your texture folder and find the cumulus1.bmp file.Right click on it and look at the Modified time. Does it match the time that you submitted the cloud textures? If you are able: take some before and after screenshots of what you are seeing. I would really like to see! Thanks!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
August 23, 200619 yr Hello,>Submit some cloud textures into FS04 while it is closed.>Then open your texture folder and find the cumulus1.bmp file.>Right click on it and look at the Modified time. Does it match>the time that you submitted the cloud textures?I've done all that. And yes, the cumulus1.bmp file has been updated.>If you are able: take some before and after screenshots of>what you are seeing. I would really like to see!Okay. Here we go. You know how it is: when you wanna show someone a problem, the problem usually doesn't occur. ;) For some time now everything worked like it's supposed to. But yesterday, finally, it happened again. So here are the screenshots. The first two images show how the clouds looked shortly before and after the "incident". They look like ActiveSky Graphics. The second two pictures, however, show what I meant. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't these clouds look a whole lot like stock clouds?
August 23, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi there,Yes they are all ASG clouds...If you don't like this particular combo you can go into ASG and load the "last autosubmit" theme and see exactly which items were loaded... From there you could disable them.FWIW I think the sky color is having a big impact on the appearance of clouds in these shots (darker clouds).. Might want to experiment with different sky colors as well. The variety is almost endless, it just needs some experiementation to get your desired results.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
August 23, 200619 yr Hi Jigsaw,All 4 shots are ASG clouds!Part of this is due to the time of day also. It looks like about a 2 hour flight starting in the morning and the sunlight level has a play in this. There maybe weather changes involved also.I think things are working fine!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
August 24, 200619 yr Okay. Thanks guys! Sorry for the slight case of turbulence. This type of clouds just looks kinda unrealistic compared to the other great looking cloud varieties that ActiveGraphics provides. That seems to be the reason why I associated these with the stock graphics of FS9. My mistake! That being settled: thanks for bearing with me. Keep up the great work and also thanks for making the Flight Simulator a whole new experience!
August 24, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi,Thanks for the words...Graphics are so subjective.. what one user thinks is brilliant another may think is plain bad. I must clarify again that your sky color textures as well as the time of day and season also have a huge impact on the overall visual representation of clouds. The cloud depictions you confused with default, for example, will look much different and possibly much better to you with some different lighting on them.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
August 28, 200619 yr Hello, sorry for bringing this up again. I had another strange occurence today: all clouds being ActiveGraphics clouds notwithstanding, the sky looked pretty weird!Have a look yourself. The two pictures show the clouds before and after I did a manual refresh:
