ActiveSky FS9 & Vista

Featured Replies

hii have moved to Vista and i am experiencing a slight problem.Vista does not have the c:document and settings folder. Due to this FS9 .cfg is not located there. With a trick i was able to relocate it. However, AS6.5 B533 is searching for the folder on startup. Every time i specify the default FS9 folder where i installed actually FS9. It keeps me prompting. Any resolution?CheersMartin

Hi,We have done little Vista testing as you might imagine. AS is looking for the wxstationlist.bin file. Locate that file and the path and then edit this line: PersonalAppDataFolder=I think that will do it.Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Slightly off topic - can you tell me what version of Vista you are using with FS9, particularly 32 or 64 and what is the performance like? Also does Active Sky Graphics work in Vista for FS9?ThanksMartin Plain

I am using Vista 32bit Ultimate. I have a AMD 64 X2 4200 with 4 gig of ram. I have ActiveSky loaded on it with GEPro. I also have reinstaled ActiveSky and GEPro onto a networked computer with XP on it. In both cases I have had great results with ASV and GEPro. I have two ini files one for FS9 and one for FSX. I use the ones on the xp computer for personal preferences. I like to keep to a minimum anything running on my FS computer which has Vista on it. I read on the forums about how most are going to stay away from Vista but I do not plan to go back to XP. I plan on upgrading my secondary computer later this year and yes I plan on putting Vista on it. I also plan to upgrade to the 64bit version once more companies (read that FS Companies) put out 64bit drivers compatible with Vista. I did have some issues with some programs but all have been overcome with workarounds in compatablility selections.

I have 64bit ultimate full version, ready to install. I note that Nvidia now have a 64bit driver for my 8800 and Creative also have a driver for my Audigy sound card. My question if you can answer is this. Assuming that Vista 64 will run FSX - will it also run an installation of FS9. I'm also wondering whether to do a complete clean install or simply upgrade the current XP Pro.Martin Plain

I had the 64bit RC1 installed and it ran FSX and FS9 but did not have sound because of drivers. I suspect now that it is out the drivers for the 64 bit version will be coming soon. I have always found a clean install works best. It is a decision that you will have to make but I would suggest a dual boot setup if you have a second drive so you can revert back to XP if the drivers prevent you from enjoying FSX or FS9. Ken

Hi all,Today we are making available a beta service update for ASv6.5 (B551) which incorporates some minor changes for better vista support (look for the sticky at the top).Essentially, you need to point your "AppData" folder to:C:UsersyourusernameAppDataRoaming (instead of the old XP format of C:Documents and SettingsApplication Data.)Also, due to vista security issues, it is best to run ASv6/ASG as Administrator.. you can do this by right-clicking the icon and "Run as Administrator" or change the icon properties permanently (right click, properties, compatibility, check "Run this as Administrator").Best,

Hello,I've just installed ASv6.5 (B552) on a wideclient PC with windows XP on it. FS9 is installed on a wideserver PC with Vista Pro on it.I've mapped all required drives like specified above with entire read/write access (made a test with a txt file through the network, and it works).I've still got the message about the "application data not found, wxstationslist.bin file etc etc".I've put manually the path in the ASv6.ini file. Didn't work !//ASv6.5 configuration file Build 552[General]WindowPosX = 495WindowPosY = 495DefaultWeatherFolder = C:Program FilesACTIVESKY 6ModulesASv6SuppressionCeiling = 10000SurfaceWindLimit = 10FS9Path = Z:PersonalAppDataFolder = Y:Pc-de-steflttUsersSteflttAppDataRoamingMicrosoftFs9I'm running both french version of Windows XP and VistaStephane

Hi,On the server computer do a search for wxstationlist.bin and place that path onto the PersonalAppDataFolder line. I think you put too much and could stop after roaming, but I do not have Vista. Please let us know as Vista is new to us also!Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

It doesn't work either if I stop the path at "roaming".The program tells me to save my options then the error message is :"Error during FS station database check (step 6): Y:MicrosoftFS9wxstationlist.BIN - NO FSX - Stations may not be properly configured for extended-coverage weather depiction"St

Hi,Did you search for your exact location of the wxstationlist.bin file?Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Yes, I did a search in Vista, on the entire Hard Disk Drive. It only find one file which seems to be the wrong one. Vista found a file located in my main FS9 directory. It didn't find the file which is located in AppData directory. Seems very strange.I can navigate and open the file wxstationlist.BIN (in the ...roamingmicrosoftfs9 directory) on the wideclient PC through the network, and the mapped drive. on Wideclient PC : AS6 + Win XP pro on Wideserver PC : FS9 + Vista Pro
