Virus in Briefing Time's FSX Update?

Featured Replies

I've downloaded the FSX update zip file, and for some reason my AV software (ZoneAlarm Pro) keeps telling me there's a virus in it - something like "not-a-virus:Adware.Win32.EShoper.j." The AV program gives me the option to repair, but it fails. Has anyone else experience this? Is my AV out to lunch? I'd really like to experience this beautiful plane in FSX, especially the great skins. Thanks,Craig

Hello Craig,I'm pretty sure that this is a false alarm. Not only that Avsim checks every file before they add it to their library, but my Norton Internet Security 2008 couldn't find a virus too. And I'm sure the guys at Maam-Sim have checked the file as well :)GreetingsTim

Thanks, Tim. I suspect you're right. I've had that file on my hard drive for a while now, and my VA only alarmed recently, after an update. Just thought it was wise to ask and see if anyone else had experienced something similar.Cheers,Craig

Hi Craig,Tim is correct, and we certainly would have had a report before now if anything was amiss. All our files are checked here before uploading, as well. Some of these minor league checkers sometimes throw out bogus alerts, I find.Bill RambowMAAM-SIM http://www.fssupport.com/maam/hgrsm_blkani.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

I just tried installing the XC47 Amphibian, and Kaspersky Internet Security gave me the exact same warning about the exact same adware in the installer.....But I'm sure it's just a false positive, so I'm just going to disable KIS and install it anyway... :)

Hey, StoneI've run my scanner at least once since installing and I haven't discovered any files infected as a result of running the update However, it did flag another a/c file I'd downloaded here - a Hampden I'd never bothered to install but have had for a while. It had been scanned quite a few times before so I suspect it's a virus def issue from Zone Alarm. Erring on the side of caution I deleted it. I'll throw out the usual "your mileage may vary" caution since it's a different a/c and file, but you're probably safe IMHO judging from the lack of reports from the community at large.Cheers,Craig ("CB")
