January 26, 200422 yr Greetings All,OneTinSoldier has detailed us on some very good tweaks. They work wonderful for flight simulator but what about all the other applications that I use day-to-day. During my -Todd

March 5, 200422 yr Greetings Kyprianos,I see the post has been moved.....let's try this again.A couple of places to start looking:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330174http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;321733 <-Server application but if may be helpful.http://www.tek-tips.com/gviewthread.cfm/le.../751/qid/755211http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBM/tip6000/rh6046.htmAlso, before you mess with your current OS, take a look at my earlier post #174088 using Raxco's FirstDefense-ISR producthttp://www.raxco.com/products/fdisr/I had no worries tweaking the heck out of the OS, since I create setup a snapshot just for gaming/tweaking. Not sure of any service that I killed that would produce the error you were seeing, but maybe the above will help.-Todd -Todd
March 5, 200422 yr Hello Kyprianos,That's a pretty serious error. The MFT is the Master File Table for the Windows filesystem(NTFS). When I got that error I had to reinstall Windows XP. I couldn't even get XP to boot up. Or maybe I should say I could not get it to finish booting up. It wouldn't let me log in.It happened after I enabled the following option...Control Panel --> System --> Advanced tab --> Performance Settings button --> Advanced tab --> System Cache bullet (under Memory usage). There could be several reasons why you got that error, but I wouldn't really know what they are. Like the message says it could even be your hardware, most likely the hard drive. But that may not necessarily be the problem, and it probably isn't. All I know is I consider it to be a pretty serious error indicating that something is wrong with your filesystem. And the filesystem is very important no matter what OS you use, whether it be MacOS X, Linux, BeOS, MS Windows or DOS, OS/2 ect. I'm no filesystem expert but the MFT probably keeps information about where files can be physically located on your hard drive, and more, and gives this info to the MS Windows OS when neeed, which is like all the time. This should not have happened from any tweak I suggested... in fact I recommend AGAINST that setting in the troubleshooting section of my guide."Make sure Memory Usage is optimized for
March 5, 200422 yr Greetings Kyprianos,Jim's has some good points above. You may also want to execute a system disk chkdsk command. This can be issued by opening Explorer --> right click on you system drive --> Propertes --> Tools --> Check Now -> select Automatically Fix File System Errors. You can also issue a chkdsk /f from the command prompt. You will then boot your system and let it run through the pre-boot check and repair. This will attempt problems in the NTFS file structure and MFT tables.-Todd -Todd
March 5, 200422 yr Hello KiprianeHave you tweak The XP services ? Maybe the problem could be located there from the first place. Just a thought. A few words about services fm blackviper's site.http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/service411.htmNikolas/athens/Greece

March 5, 200422 yr Hi Kyprianos,Well this is good news! :) I'm glad to hear everything is ok. And that your problems with textures is also cured. The issue with the textures when 'System Cache' is checked had come up a long time ago on the forum here and was yet another reason for my recommending that it be the 'Programs' bullet be checked in the Troubleshooting section of the guide.NTFS is much more robust than the old FAT32 and I have heard it has some self-recovery features. If your filesystem was actually having a problem perhaps NTFS was able to repair itself.Cheers,Jim
March 23, 200422 yr Hello onetinsoldier!Am quite impressed by your guide. I have one question though. Do FS 2004 really benefit from 256 mb Aperture size? The latest thing about Aperture size is that having anything larger than 128 regardless of how much RAM you got or video card is quite useless. In fact Geforce 4 with 64 mb RAM may benefit more of 256 mb of Aperture size than newer video cards with 128 or 256 mb of on board RAM. Since games of today don
March 25, 200422 yr Hello Par,I read your post in the simflight forum. Sorry, but I'm not certain what the problem is.From your description there it sounds like it could possibly be a scenery loading issue. With that in mind if it has anything to do with one of the tweaks in my guide then I think it would be the following setting in your FS9.cfg file...TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=120You might want to try lowering the value down from 120.Another suggestion is if you have 'Render To Texture' checked in the sim's settings try unchecking it, restarting the sim, and see if that cures it.Regards,Jim
