February 9, 200521 yr Just ran Riva Tuner and it seems all 16 pipelines and 6 vps are intact, so it seems I have a genuine GT. For further confidence, I ran 3DMark2005 and got a score of 4400 at stock 3000+ speed and stock video card clocking, which seemed closely comparable to others in the 3DMark2005 data base with similar systems. On the very positive side, I cranked up Half Life 2, which I could only previously run at 1024x768 and 4xAA/4xAF with acceptable performance (ie. a bit chunky every now and again). I can now run this game at 1152x864 (my native desktop resolution) 8xAA/16xAF and is is super smooth and super pretty :-hah I am still stumped as to why my default FS performance with all sliders right, a stock OS install and stock CPU and video card speeds that I am not getting 30+ FPS that others in here have reported. My system is pretty close to leading edge now, and overclocking brings me pretty close to hardware utopia, yet it still only punches out mediocre FPS numbers on this year and a half old FS title. :-hmmm Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
February 9, 200521 yr Absolutely no difference for me either (AMD3400 @ 2.4 g, nvidia 4800SE), anyone who posts on this latency issue promoting it as the magic bullet should add in upper case YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY!!Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." February 9, 200521 yr Try 8sXAA and 8 or 16XAF this also gave me a little bit more stable performance. I am using the (I think it is) 68.93 drivers. I'm sorry that the LTCY didn't work. I guess I was just one of the lucky ones. I would also agree about the cloud set, the default are just killers try using the FSW set hifps they work and look great for me. ________________________________________________________________________________ Jeremy 9800X3D OC'd -30 +200MHZ | 64GB CL30 RAM | RTX 5080 | Windows 11 23H2| Bravo Throttle | Alpha Yoke | CH Pedals | Logitech Radio Panel | SmoothTrack | AAO
February 10, 200521 yr As promised, the results of my before and after 6800GT makeover are attached. In summary, not much of a difference in FPS from previous low FPS configurations, but much better when clouds enter the equation. HOWEVER, sim fluidity has improved immensely and I am no longer seeing 3 to 5 second delays in textures reappearing on occasions as I rapidly switch between internal and external views. Also, FPS don't even budge as I crank the AA/AF up to max settings (8x/16x), so you can guess where I'll leave that setting. :-hah As an aside to FS, I am very impressed with the MSI 6800 GT. I has a little slider on the edge of the card that allows me to adjust the fan speed anywhere from 2800rpm (whisper) to 4000rpm (loud). I am happy to report that even with the fan set at 2800rpm and overclocking the card up to ultra speed (400/1100 up from 350/1000) it all works fine and dandy with the core temp not yet exceeding 75C (it takes 120C before thermal throttling kicks in!). With the exception of FS as noted above, everything else I throw at this card runs at mega FPS and mega smooth at max settings. Hopefully FS10 will take advantage of these newer video cards and take more of the load off the CPU. I mean going from no to max AA/AF with barely a change in FPS screams out to me that these cards have much offloading capacity (please take note MS ;))!Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

I know this thread is a little long in the tooth, but I've been out of town. Just wanted to add to what Jeremy said. If you do a search in the Avsim file library for Dylkiewicz, you'll get two pages of his files. He has resized cloud, runway, autogen, and sun textures. I'm using his 3D clouds and runway textures. They look great and really improve performance. His clouds are smaller than Chris' FSW clouds. He's done them in varying sizes, so you can use the ones that give you the best balance between visual quality and performance. As for MS taking advantage of newer cards, you have to wonder if they really care about performance. When you can massively reduce the cloud textures and see no difference visually, why would they use such huge textures? If you have FS Panel Studio and you've edited the default 747 panel, you know there's a picture of somebody's kid embedded in the panel. With each version of FS, the kid is a couple of years older. I know somebody on the FS team thinks it's cute to have the kid hidden in the panel, but when I was running at 800Mhz, I was scrounging for every frame. To save resources, I didn't even have a background on my desktop. I was a little ###### to find this egg buried in my bloated FS folder. Just makes you wonder what they are thinking about, sometimes.Cheers.
