January 26, 200521 yr Okay, well then that may make a bit of difference. I havent cranked the AA and AF up that high, or at all (AA).Will try that and the new drivers first!Eric
January 27, 200521 yr Okay, here's the deal. I forgot to reset my resolution settings from 16 to 32 bit! Now, ESPECIALLY now that I have turned up Anti Alliasing and AFiltering, the sim looks the best I have ever seen on a pc. Very nice, thanks guys. I for some reason notice some really good performance gains too for some reason. I am very happy with it. Now if AMD will take their CPUs to a higher level!Eric
January 27, 200521 yr Hi Eric,I'm glad your visual quality has become the stunning quality it can reach in FS2004. I noticed from your earlier posts that you may be confused between how much memory a video card has and its "power". Just remember that the "power" of a video card is its graphics processing unit (GPU) NOT its memory. You can have a video card from, say 2 years ago with 1024MB (1GB) of memory yet it will still perform much worse than today's video cards with 128MB memory because today's cards have much more capable and hence powerful GPU's. As already mentioned, any memory more than 128MB does not benefit FS performance much at all.Enjoy your new card!John I love flying my "iddy biddy Jumbo" CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, socket 775/3GHz/1333MHz bus/6MB cache MOBO: Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP@n/Intel X38 chipset RAM: 4GB Kingston HyperX 1333MHz. rated 7-7-7-20, matched pair (2 x 2GB) GRAPHICS: Sapphire Radeon 5770HD 1GB (w/ fan) MONITOR: Samsung 24", 2494HM LCD wide-screen 1920x1080 SOUND: SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS HARD DRIVES: 1xWestern Digital WD1600JD SATA 160GB (primary/Windows XP and system boot drive) 1xWestern Digital WD3200AAJS SATA2 320GB (secondary/Flight Simulator 2004 running off WinXP Pro 32-bit, games video editing drive) 1xWestern Digital 500GB Black series SATA2 (Windows 7 64-bit: FSX is running off Win7; Windows XP Professional 32-bit) CASE: Antec Sonata III 500W OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit for FSX; Windows XP Pro 32-bit for other things.
January 27, 200521 yr >Hi Eric,>1024MB of RAM is more than enough. Your video card is very>slow by FS2004 standards if you want speed and quality and is>definitely out-dated. Upgrade it to MINIMUM of ATI Radeon>9800 Pro, or Ge Force 4 5950 or higher. >>Just to give you an idea, the latest video cards beat by miles>the above Radeon 9800 pro and the 5900 series (i.e. cards like>the ATI X800 or NVidia 6800 series) in performance tests done>by http://www.tomshardware.com. So, your card is definitely>in need of replacement.>>Hope you get a good one!>>John>>Also, if you dont want to spend that much, you can also go down to the 9600XT 128MB. Its the step lower than the 9800, but it runs great. Scenery is turned up all the way. And i keep my cloud draw at 50Mi and sight at 60Mi. I tryed full sliders on clouds. But it murdered my frames. But im really happy with what i have. Every thing but clouds are turned up all the way. Full cloud detail, but i just keep distance on the low end. And i am able to lock at 30.But if you can, go for the 9800, its a better card, but im still really happy with mine. :-) Chase Barnett
January 28, 200521 yr For now I have no complaints about the Nvidia 6600GT. It is working like a charm and Im glad I bought it. Now I have to decide what to do with the old 5200.....
February 1, 200521 yr Newer video cards produce better performance at the 32 bit setting, compared with 16 bit... Bert
