February 26, 200521 yr >>i have a A64, but people on the P4 3.2 or similar on the 32 bit processors, will be left out untill they upgrade.. Am i right?<< Absolutely! All those people who recently bought a P4 will have to upgrade their hardware again if they want to use winXP64 and/or 64-bit software... Kind regards Jaap
February 26, 200521 yr Author i hope the new 64version of XP will have better performance. What you guys think?JAAP, we gotta get online and fly together some day. :) Chase Barnett
February 27, 200521 yr Performance is much better in FS9 under 64BIT windows, the textures load and never have to reload agian, switching views is instant. Looks very promising.
February 27, 200521 yr G'day gentlemen Well, we'll see whether FS10 will offer a 64-bit option as well? But it's a very interseting question, isn't it? FS10 could easily be released in two versions on the same media. I guess the 64-bit part of the FS-code should be no larger than 50MB (for the exe, modules, dlls, etc). The rest is textures or bgls, etc., and those can come in almost any format. As a comparison; xp64 has DX9.0c in both a 32- and 64-bit version (IE and other software too), nevertheless, the difference in OS-size is only approximately 100MB. Another interesting factor is the -almost- total lack of applications which will really benefit from 64-bit software. As P
February 27, 200521 yr Ohhh, I edited offline and missed your reply, Kurt. Sorry for that. Kind regards Jaap
February 27, 200521 yr Wow Kurt now you got me triggered. Are you serious that FS9 is faster in XP 64 beta? Is there a A64 optimized version of FS9??I do get this texture loading or rather not loading crap quite frequently.
February 27, 200521 yr Author Jaap,so thats the 64bit verion of the windows os? Do you loose everything you have on your current OS before installing? Any downside to this beta version of windows? Chase Barnett
February 27, 200521 yr Hi everybody >>Are you serious that FS9 is faster in XP 64 beta? Is there a A64 optimized version of FS9??<
February 27, 200521 yr I just did a little work on a apple g5 with mac os X. And let me tell you although I didn't run any demanding software, the overall smoothness is incredible! No stutters, applications load instantly and are always extremly responsive. It's just miles better than XP ever was and probably will be. Would be cool if you could run MSFS also on the mac os x platform...Right now the whole windows computer world looks like a complete mess to me. Why is 64bit coming so slowly?Besides I am not really impressed by the two big players amd and intel which are both struggling to put something REALLY revolutionary on the market. I hope the upcoming CELL processors will change all that and give us a REAL performance boost of some factors(!).what do you think?cheers,Claudio
February 27, 200521 yr I finally had some time yesterday and spent a few hours getting x64 XP set up all how I want and tweaked, a few minor tweaks, but none the less. While frames are not any better then on 32BIT windows, in fact I found them almost worse at times, my guess is that's due to many beta drivers that are not optimized yet. The part that I really do enjoy was the smoothness, no stutters at all, I rarely have any on 32 BIT windows but 64 BIT just made it that much smoother. The big thing though was the textures loading, you switch views and boom they are there, I don't even have that awesome of a graphics card, it would be interesting to see on a high end one. The biggest thing now that I have noticed as x64 XP is now at RC2, all of my 32 bit games and applications now work.
February 27, 200521 yr Author dont know why, but i feel like im going to wait for the final release in the stores. I feel like i would mess my pc up..Jaap: a little off subject, but do you know how i could correct the problem im having. When in 2d panel, my frames sink to around 8 or 9. when in any other view, my frames will lock at 30. Any advice on how to fix this? Chase Barnett
February 27, 200521 yr Author Intel is just now coming into 64-bit processors. AMD i think isnt behind at all, they have been doing 64-bits for some time now. Windows and Mac are 2 completely diff. OS. Everything is different from the other. Diff coding, to structure, requirements, everything.AMD is in the lead though, with their FX series and the A64 4000+.Just depends one what you like, but AMD is the best. :):-wave Chase Barnett
