February 24, 200521 yr Check out this link: http://www.cnet.com/4520-6022_1-5670788-1.html?tag=cnetfd.wkCan we expect another hardcore 64-bit processor that is as good or better as the A64 or FX55?Just curious to know what opinions from others are. Is this something that will blow amd away and make fs run like a dream? :-roll i wonder if i should of held off on my new system for this new processor from intel? :-rollWhats your opinion on this new 64bit?:-wave Chase Barnett
February 24, 200521 yr Or perhaps, like this article points out Intel is simply catching up with AMD ...Nothing 'blows away' anything these days. Any improvements are of very incremental nature.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2 Michael J.
February 24, 200521 yr Author every thing is getting better at a very fast rate. Im just curious to know if i could of held off on a pc and got something better. Is this new processor going to be better than the A64 or FX series? For example. A FX55 vs a P4 2.8w/HT Chase Barnett

February 24, 200521 yr >Is this new processor going to be better>than the A64 or FX series? For example. A FX55 vs a P4>2.8w/HTTry comparing the FX55 with the 3.73 GHZ Extreme Edition that just came out. The FX55 wins, gaming numbers anyways. Where Intel has AMD is beat is stuff like video editing and audio, those are areas where core clock speed makes a difference.
February 25, 200521 yr Well to be honest we are pretty spoiled with getting faster and faster components. I would say it
February 25, 200521 yr Author I get that, but what i posted about the fx55 vs the 2.8 was a comparison. Im just curious to know what the performance difference will be between a system like mine. (A64 3200) Chase Barnett
February 25, 200521 yr This article seems to explain the whole thing in great detail:http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2353&p=1
February 25, 200521 yr Great!! Intel announced and launched another P4 CPU without drivers and/or proper mainboards... Only Asus is offering some very beta (Intel) drivers for their P4 boards for use with EM64T CPUs. There also still is a significant technical difference between AMD's and Intel's 64-ers right now: With Intel, the mainboard chipset continues to do the memory controlling job, where AMD has it integrated into the CPU. I agree with Michael, Intel is only catching-up... It's certainly nothing to be really excited about... In this sense, Anandtech's last line of the review says it all... I feel sorry for those who recently upgraded to new P4s and mainly got a higher energy consumption without getting new technology (apart from i.e. PCI-e). Case those folks want to start to use 64-bit software or OS(s), there's no other way than to upgrade again... Worst of all and if it has to be an Intel - to a totally new platform which has barely been introduced and yet has an even higher energy consumption. On the other hand, people with 64-bit AMDs are already looking at pretty mature platforms and drivers. Perhaps also not to be neglected, multicore CPUs are also just around the corner... WinXP64 will allow up to 2 of these (true) multicores per xp64 license. Because there's a technical difference between multicores and multiple CPUs, single-CPU applications such as FS should benefit from those 'true multicores' once marketed. That is at least as far as I understood the deal. Last but not least, the 'Cell' looks very interesting too. Jeeez, it almost confusing..! Good luck and kind regards everybody Jaap PS: Intel didn't copy AMD's x64 instruction sets, they licensed them against their own SSE3, etc. Both x64 instruction sets are identical and only have different names attached to them. The catch is their abiltiy to operate 32-bit software at respectable speeds, something pure 64-bitters can't do without slowing down. PPS: What do you folks think; will MS first release a 64-bit version of FS or one which operates with multiple CPUs? Or even both?!? Maybe a second interesting question: Could that already happen as early as FS10? What do you think?
February 26, 200521 yr I highly doubt FS10 will be 64BIT, although it does depend on when they do start do develop it or when they plan to release it, but if they do make it 64BIT there will also have to be a 32BIT version as well.
February 26, 200521 yr Author As long as the 64-bits can run on 32 bit software, i think it will stick at 32. Pretty much all computers run 32 bit software, and AMD is equipped to do so, and if the 64 ver comes soon, i wont worry, i have a A64, but people on the P4 3.2 or similar on the 32 bit processors, will be left out untill they upgrade.. Am i right? Chase Barnett
