i have the K8 Triton GA-K8NS Pro nForce3 250 chipset. Also, just had a relative check it out, he told me that i have a partioned hard drive. I think when i booted windows, then ran the windows xp disc and tryed to install it again, it started a 2nd xp that is now incomplete. Any idea's on how to fix this? Or am i screwed and need a new HDD?:-wave

Chase,Have a look at this link. It has an install guide for Windows XP Home in the section titled "Installing Windows XP Home" with Windows XP Pro just below that, and comes complete with pictures to help. You might have multiple partitions and are selecting the wrong one to format. Read the instructions and warnings carefully.http://www.blackviper.com/Articles/OS/OSgu...Windows_XP_Home

if i make the disc, what type must it go on? CD or DVD? Also, will this fix my hard disk? Such as completely erasing every thing and enable me to re-load windows?

Wow, what a mess!Cruachan's advice and link should do you very well.If you have one of those store bought computers you probably have a D: partition, and this is what's causing the problem. XP tried to install on it, as well as having the FUBAR'd version on C:. Though a bit challenging to use, FDISK works quite well for eliminating extended partitions (and it's free).Go here: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm to download DOS 6.22 (fourth choice from the top). Run the exe and burn the application to CD. Then go into your BIOS and set your CD to be the first device to read (rather than your hard drive). Reboot with the CD in the drive and then format the C: and D: drives (as well as any others present). Finally you'll need to surf the Net to learn more about using FDISK to remove any and all extended partitions. Reformat the C: drive once the extended partitions are removed and you should be ready to reinstall Windows. The Seagate software Par linked you to should also work to remove any extended partitions, but some of those applications work OK and some don't. The most thorough (and challenging) method is DOS.Good luck,Greg

hey greg, buddy you always have good advice. Its a pc i had custom built. I picked out all the parts, they just plugged it together for me. I have become really worried lately, and i have to ask, what will this do for my pc? Wipe the HDD so i can reinstall?:-wave

As mentioned. There is a ISO version for bootable ISO:s ;)

"...what will this do for my pc? Wipe the HDD so i can reinstall?"Yep. If you can't repair the current OS install (and it may or may not be too far gone). If it were me I'd wipe the thing clean, remove any extended partitions (using FDISK to be thorough), and then do a fresh reinstall after a complete format.Greg

Greg, is there a chance of XP not re-installing? I have a bad feeling due to some previous luck of mine.

As long as you have a reformatted hard drive and a valid XP disc (none of those "recovery" discs allowed) you should be fine.FDISK can be a bit daunting. Just remember that your goal with it is to remove any extended partitions (D:) from the logical partition (C:).Greg
