March 22, 200521 yr Hello, this is for anyone that might know what is going on here. I just installed Microsoft Office 2003 on my computer and I am noticing that all Microsoft ".cfg" files that have anything to do with FS9 now are using the Microsoft Office/Outlook ICON instead of the normal "Notepad" ICON. This did not seem to have any effect on the operation of FS9, so I am not really that concerned, just curious as to why the .cfg file icon would change. Is this maybe some kind of security blanket that Microsoft has instituted for it's program files, because I had to choose the "Notepad" program to open the file? I have now gone into properties and set the .cfg files to open using "Notepad". I did this for one and they all seem to be responding OK now. I can now double click on the .cfg file and it will open normally as I would expect. Has anyone else noticed this when installing Microsoft Office? i913900KF (5.8GHz) | Case: Fractal PopAir RGB I Gigabyte Z790 UD AX| MSI Gaming RTX 4070Ti Super 16GB | Kingston Fury Beast 64GB DDR5 5200Mhz | SOLIDIGM P41 Plus 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD | Samsung SSD 870 EVO 2TB | Thermalright Frozen Notte 240 MM Liquid Cooling | LG EVO 42" Monitor 3840 x 2160 120Hz | Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo | Logitech G Pro pedals | Tobii EyeTracker | 850W Thermaltake 80+ GOLD |
March 23, 200521 yr IMO Microsoft is one of the worst when it comes to changing your windows configuration without asking, going back to the days of "the code's not done 'till Lotus won't run".There's a couple routes to fix, but I open the windows explorer, and then go to the tools menu, and select folder options. There should be a tab for "file types" and a box with all the known file types by extension. scroll down to CFG file, and then click on the "change". Sometimes it will make things difficult, but what you want is to change the "open with" using "select from list". When you get there you can select notepad and your icons should go back to how they were.scott s..
March 24, 200521 yr Is this really a hardware issue? Geez. Anyway I posted something here that I wasn't sure if it was a hardware issue or not and it was deleted, probably for not being a hardware issue, but I was just being cautious as I didn't want to upset anyone by posting it in the general forum if it did happen to be a hardware issue. Very strange people would move this topic here. I think you were in the right Tom for posting this first in the General forum.Jeff Jeff Commercial | Instrument | Multi-Engine Land AMD 5600X, RTX3070, 32MB RAM, 2TB SSD
