March 29, 200521 yr I was advised to set my aniso (which I have never used before) on the new Radeon 850XT PE to 16x but I am not sure I see what it does in FS. I've seen articles about how it sharpens distant objects and provides more detailed, realistic textures; but I already get incredible sharpness with FSAA and very hi resolution on my LCD.Should I be able to see curves and shapes of distant mountains and valleys, and ripples in rock faces, clearer distant fields and prairies, etc.? What does aniso do for FS ?Appreciate any posts, thanks.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
March 29, 200521 yr an awfull lot, if yo look at a plane as it flys towards you the sides will appear out of fucus and fuzzywithout AF with it they become sharp and focussed, also it does a great deal to improve scenery in the same way.
March 29, 200521 yr Author But you see, I already have 100% razor sharp a/c just with FSAA set to 4x and 1600x1200 res. I can touch the pilot's nose it's so clear. I don't see any diff at all with aniso on any of the a/c. I'm very interested in comments about how aniso has specifically changed people's views of scenery/landscapes and what additional features they see as a result of using it. Any further comments welcome. Thanks for your post.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
April 1, 200521 yr Take two screenshots, one with zero AF and one with 4XAF... When you compare the two, You'll see that the mid distance scenery is a brown soup with no AF and has real detail with 4XAF.As to what 16X would buy you over 4X, I have no idea... Bert
April 1, 200521 yr Author No significant visible diff between AF 4x and 16x except that there is less "swimming" effects in the pic. Then again, if I reload the a/c, the swimming effect goes away....!JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.

April 1, 200521 yr Me I see a real difference between 4x and 8x however between 8x and 16x the difference get quite small. For me I have learned to settle for 4x aniso and like 70 miles visibility or something. I would preferr 8x aniso but I need the all performance I can get so I have to compromise :(
