April 12, 200521 yr For some strange reason, suddenly, my views are all pixilated. I think that's the term. For example, when I am on the runway, the surface of the runway is made up of various size and color rectangles. This had never been a problem before. I did just download an updated ATI Catalyst driver for my Radeon 9800 Pro card. I also noted that the driver for my Sony monitor was missing and reloaded that (after the pixilation appeared, but that didn't help. I wonder if the new ATI Radeon driver doesn't work so well with my Sony computer, or if the change in view was coincidental with some other thing that messed up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,Bruce
April 12, 200521 yr try rolling back your drivers to see if that cures it. if it does then you probably have hit the nail on the head with your concerns about the new drivers and your Sony computer. if you have allready done that it sounds like you have your hardware settings set to no filtering (bilinear or trilinear filtering turned off), so this might be something to chack before doing a driver rollback.
April 12, 200521 yr Hello Bruce,It's amazing how many reports of FS9 CTD's, strange looking scenery, gauges, texture abnomolies, etc., occur soon after a new video card driver is released. At least you saw that it was probably the updated ATI Catalyst driver that caused your problem and not Microsoft's FS9. I strongly suggest checking out this guide at the following site for proper installation/tweaking of your Radeon 9800 Pro video card: http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html. It has definitely helped me. There's a guide for the NVIDIA card too. Hope this helps.JimIntelP4 3.6Ghz w/1Gig DDR2 RAM/RadeonX800XT PCIe w/256Mg
April 12, 200521 yr Hi there.Another thing to look at is your filtering properties in Flightsim.Make sure your filtering settings are set to Trilinear or bilinear as setting filtering to None can make the game graphics display those symptons you are describing. Also have a look at your mip map settings and make sure they are on either 4 or 5 as that can affect the image quality in the game. CheersCraig
April 12, 200521 yr That did it. I set the filtering to Trilinear and all of the wierdness is gone except that the top frame of the front window in 2D panel view on my POSKY CRJ has a jagged edge. The outside scenery has returned to normal. I don't recall ever using the filtering before I made the recent Catalyst update, but it did solve the problem to use it now. Also, thanks to the person who suggested I read the Tweak guide. How does that guy get enough time in his life to distill and compose all of that information in such an understandable way? What a treasure trove!!Thanks to all,Bruce
April 12, 200521 yr If the edge is more jagged than you recall... could you be running at a lower resolution? Try 1280x960x32 or such and see if that changes things. Bert
April 13, 200521 yr >If the edge is more jagged than you recall... could you be>running at a lower resolution? Try 1280x960x32 or such and>see if that changes things.I'm at 1280 x 1024 amd was before. I'm on a 17 inch flat panel Sony Monitor.
April 13, 200521 yr OK... then that was not it.2d panels, unfortunately often have jagged edges, since many have a native resolution of 1024 pixels across, even recent releases.I quite like panels with 1280 or better bitmaps, like the Flight1 172 or 441 Conquest for example, at 2048 pixels! Bert
April 13, 200521 yr Hello Bruce.Glad to know you solved your outside view problems.Happy flying.Craig
