New Nvidia Driver....an improvement!

Featured Replies

Just picked up the NEW Nvidia Driver 77.72 for my 6800GT card. It seems quite stable and I believe that, so far, seems to be an improvement over previous drivers. I see more smoothness, and FPS seem to stay higher....longer. Only time will tell, but so far, so good. Here's the site: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_77.72.html

I've been using the 80.40 beta for some time with good results too!www.guru3d.comAllcott

Allcott, This site calls these drivers (80.40's) "extremely beta". I don't mind trying them, but tell me: Did you use the 77.72's and do you notict that the 80.40's give you something the others didn't? I'd like more detail on your findings, if you don't mind.

Has anyone found an nVidia driver in the 7x.xx+ series, other than 71.50, that doesn't have ghosting issues when hovering over tooltips while FS is in a window? I've tried the 80.40 but it still has a tooltip problem. Haven't tried the 77.72 driver yet.Gary

A bit off topic... but pertaining to the 7772 drivers.First, I am not a graphics or graphic card major nor do I understand very much about how they interact with FS9.I have the 7772 drivers installed and, based on some comments on this forum I changed the settings in Display/Hardware so that the graphics card was the ruler of things such as anti-aliasing and "bi-linear/tri-linear" settings. Seems in my lack of knowledge that I have gone overboard. Are there items in FS9's display/hardware settings that FS9 should govern and others that should be left to the graphics card settings? I realize that graphics card technology seems to change rapidly and MSFS is an "every other year or so" thing. MSFS certainly can't keep up with the changes and improvements that ATI and nVidia are marketing.Help with these items, though not directly related, would be greatly appreciated.donmac

In fact, I have a 6800GT Ultra and tested the 77.72 intensly. It is very human to believe that the introduction of a new release would be conterminously to an improvement (including me :-)), however, I can't confirm any improvement this time - at least not significant enough to justify the time spent for the whole configuration. Rgds, Sam

They work fine for me.The one thing I really liked about these drivers is they installed a tool for setting your monitor colors and gamma to perfection. None of the other driver downloads had given me that before. Now FS9 night and day colors are much better than I've ever had before. Much more realism at night, and the day...I didn't realize one could miss so much just because the monitor colors and gamma were not set correctly!

>The one thing I really liked about these drivers is they>installed a tool for setting your monitor colors and gamma to>perfection.Where? Don't see anything except the usual color adjustments.Noel

I'm not sure if all the GeForce setups are the same, but here's how I accessed this incredible tool.ControlPanel/Display/Settings/Advanced/GeForce TabOnce I click on the GeForce Tab a sub menu opens to the left of the Settings display, kind of like the windows fall down. There I have GeForce 3 Ti200. When I click on that other items open up, (Screen Adjustment, Display Mode Timing, Performance and Quality Settings, Color Correction, Video Overlay Settings, Tools, NVRotate, Screen Resolutions and Refresh Rates). When I click on "Tools" it opens up the monitor color and gamma setting tool.

Hey thanks! Overlooked it obviously :().Noel
