Major graphical problems

Featured Replies

Ever since I bought my new rig this spring I've had constant problems with the graphics in MSFS. Usually I have nice grahpics immediately after installing MSFS2k4 but then all the sudden, WHAM!, I get the blurries and the war of the ants on the ground. It's also like AA is not doing its job. It just turns up there for no apparent reason and all of my 15 years of computer experience laugh in my face.I have a potent system: AMD 3800+, Asus A8N-SLI, ATI XT850XT PCI-e videocard with the latest 5.7 catalyst drivers (and I've tried older ones as well as Omega), 1 GB Mushkin v2 RAM and a Seagate 250 GB SATA disk. I also have Windows SP2 installed and the latest BIOS and nForce4 drivers. I have nothing extra in the computer, just the videocard - the ethernet controller and sound chip are onboard. When I flew yesterday everything looked gorgeus, then I installed a patch for Battlefield 2 and changed the USB ports for my Goflight stuff. Today when I started a new flight it looked like the enclosed pictures. In the picture you see, it is worse than usual though, Usually the textures are pretty sharp, it's the ground that looks blurry and the airplane jaggied.I tried loading Windows XP using an earlier restore point (or how you call it) which was created when MSFS worked nicely. To no avail and to me that indicates that it is perhaps hardware related. However, the CPU is not hot (45-46 degrees) and not overclocked and the same goes for the videocard. There are no exclamation marks in the device manager so everything seems to be in order. I also run Battlefield 2 without a hitch.Running DXdiag doesn't indicate anything special.I also use MSFS in 1280x1024 with AA set at 4x in the windows drivers, bilinear filtering in MSFS and Mip mapping at High quality in the Windows drivers.I've formatted and installed Win XP 6 times now since Friday searching for the culprit. However it's installing some 60-70 purchased addons that is so boring...Anyone have ANY ideas?!Best regards,Krister Lind

Well, thanks for your kind intentions though! :)Actually, I let MSFS do the troubleshootingReset defaults routine and things got a bit better. I still have the shimmering but AA works (at least for now). However, now all the textures on the airplane, on the panel in VC and on buildings, disappeares now and then and I have to press the alt-button to get them back. Never heard of that before. Any solutions from anyone?

Hi Krister,I don't think I know as much about all this as you do as I read your posts. However, I have found deleting the FS9.cfg file and letting FS9 write a new one has fixed many of my problems in the past. I didn't see whether you tried this. If you haven't, it might help.Kind regards,Bill Worth
