September 20, 200520 yr Hello, has anyone installed this new driver? If so what are your reaction to it.I am looking for a good driver for my Nvidia Geforce FX5500 oc and was wondering what all you Nvidia card users use as a driver version? Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
September 20, 200520 yr Well... funny you should ask. I have a NV 6800 and -- after testing under very similar conditions in weather, aircraft, etc., I could see a small frame-rate increase. I'd go so far as to say as I got about 5 fps more across the board with them. However (ahhh, there's always a "however")... now I have another problem. I run FS9 windowed mode most of the time. Now all I get is some sort of 'artifacts' with these drivers; these artifacts appear, for instance, if I switch tasks. Not every time, but it happens. It also happens if I access the FS9 menu in-game and then call up a window like FSPassengers. I end up with what amounts to a "screenshot" of the 2d window that NEVER goes away. It effectively renders the 2D window useless. And I haven't figured out a way around it except for one thing: reload the aircraft by re-selecting it in the FS9 aircraft menu. That clears the problem right up; of course, it creates other immense problems, especially with more complex aircraft like the PMDG 737. It blows the whole flight plan, and will often shut down engines and such. In other words, it's not do-able in flight. So what am I saying? Well.... if I don't find a solution for the problem, I'm going to have to go back to another driver set. No way around it. The increased FPS are nice, but it really ruins FS overall since I never know when I'm going to lose the 2D window.Incidentally, there's a similar thread about this very issue at: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=10330&page=Hope I find a solution soon. Additionally (before someone asks), I always uninstall any older NV drivers, and use Driver Cleaner in safe mode, etc., to remove ALL vestiges of Nvidia files and registry keys. As with all things like this, YMMV.
September 21, 200520 yr Interesting. I appear to had exactly the same artifacts when I upgraded to the 78.03 drivers yesterday. Pity because I felt there was a noticable performance increase but with these problems they are a non starter. Rolled back to my old drivers 66.81 and all is well fortunately. Thought the problem might have been due to not fully deleting the old drivers but apparently not.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." September 26, 200520 yr If I turn tool-tips off, I lose all those artifacts. It does look to be something related to the new nVidia drivers.CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
September 27, 200520 yr >If I turn tool-tips off, I lose all those artifacts. It does>look to be something related to the new nVidia drivers.Bob:Confirmed. I shut off tool tips and the problem went away.Incidentally, before your post, I had been dealing with the problem (when it occurs) by simply going into the FS9 Display settings and changing the filtering from Trilinear to Bilinear, then doing the same to reverse it (Bilinear to Trilinear). This seems to force FS9 into refreshing everything and the 'artifacts' go away. Not a good solution, but the only one I found that worked.Anyway, don't need tooltips myself for the most part, so your post helped me. Thanks.
