Clicking sound in FSD Skymaster soundset

Featured Replies

I have a fairly weird problem with the FSD Cessna 337 that I was hoping someone here could help me resolve. The aircraft works just fine on my system, except for one issue with the sounds that I have been unable to resolve. When the power is brought into the cruise range, I hear a rythmic "tick-tick-tick" that almost sounds like the audio file is looping every second or so(it seems to disappear at very high or low power settings). I have listened to all of the files in the 337's sound folder, and the ticking in't present in them, so it is apparant that the ticking is coming from how my PC and FS blend the sound files(The FSD Skymaster is the only aircraft that does this). The sound can be heard in both the internal and external views, and switching from speakers to a set of Bose headphones has no effect. I have tried updating my sound card drivers (it is a Creative SB Live!, so the newest drivers are from '03) and plying with the sound setings in FS9, but nothing aside from reducing the sound quality in FS to it's lowest setting (which is far worse than the clicking) seems to help. Does anyone here have any clues about how to solve this?

Hopefully FSD won't be telling you that this clicking sound means that you've pirated their product, a fact known to them as an undeniable technical certainty. :-lolYou could do some editing of the .wav files to smooth the beginning and end of the sound loop.Or, you can try contacting FSD on their support forum. I wish you good luck with that!CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

There are in fact some new drivers for Creative cards issued only a week or so ago, and which can be used with the Live! cards. Probably the problem is that the actual track is preceded or followed by a silence. Remove the silence and the click goes away.As Bob says, you should post in the FSD forum. They dealt with a similar issue for another plane a while back, IIRC.Allcott

Way to respond. A legit question is asked and you use it as an opportunity to bash a company for personal reasons. To the original poster. I am unable to reproduce this sound so perhaps it is an issue with certain sound cars or drivers. Best go ask the question over at the FSD fourm. FSD by the way has excellent customer support for polite and respectful users.

A possible idea may be to rename the Skymaster sound folder, create a new sound folder with an alias to another aircraft...perhaps the default C.182.If the clicking ceases, you'll have (at least) isolated the annomaly to the Skymaster's original sound pack.Could this also be an issue of a missing sound file for panel or nav equipment..., if not a driver issue...??Sounds like some more slow and patient poking around.

>Way to respond. A legit question is asked and you use it as>an opportunity to bash a company for personal reasons. Legit question...legit answer. Nothing personal there...but I don't think highly of their business practices and the way they treat their customers.Since any critique always gets characterized as "bashing", maybe from now on we should refer to all praise from the fan club as "pimping." Seems fair to me.>FSD by the way has excellent customer support for polite and >respectful users.Thanks...you've made my point. How many folks would accept a waitress that only serves "polite and respectful" customers? Using her definition of polite and respectful, of course. Complain to her in any way about the cold coffee, and forget about seeing the rest of your meal... That's exactly how I think FSD operates.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

Thanks for the replies. I have tried FSD's forum, but they were unable to resolve the issue, so I thought I'd ask here.

I found that upgrading to an Audigy 2 sound card and current XP drivers did away with the vast majority of my sound issues in FS on one of my satellite PCs. The SB Live! boards have been on terminal life support for a long time now...CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

B.S. The original question had nothing to do with the crap you brought up. Complaining about an issue with a product is not the same as being rude or disrespectful. If the tone of your post here (and many others I have read) are indicative of how you complain about a product or how you treat individuals in correspondence then I am not surprised you were not treated well. If you are disrespectful you should not only not get dinner, but the chef should toss you out on the street and tell you not to come back. We get it. You have a beef with FSD. You have made that point over and over again. Do we need a sticky thread at the top to remind everyone over and over again of your opinion so the rest of us can get on with acting like adults? Enough already.Douglas

>We get it. Clearly, you don't.I don't "have a beef" with FSD. I disapprove of their methods, as do quite a few others. If it's acceptable for you and the rest of the glee club to sing praise unto them over and over and over, every time a new audience presents itself, then why do you consider it less acceptable to raise a standing objection to their business practices repeatedly in the same circumstances? This registry-scanning for keygen traces business is something new, and previous unhappiness notwithstanding, deserves some public attention. Some new public attention, that is, in response to FSD lowering the bar once again. This was never about FSD not treating me well. In my first and last dealing with those guys, it wasn't that they didn't treat me well, it's that they didn't treat me at all...just kept sending me back to try again without lifting a finger to help. We've heard the same critiques from lots of their ex-customers...that these guys will tell user after user that a problem with one of their products is the user's to solve, and if the user dares to suggest otherwise, they consider that "disrespectful" and support pretty much ceases from there.A "sticky' with the standing complaints of the sizeable group of frustrated users that don't have FSD glee club memberships is a great idea. It'll be a pretty long one though. You're cleared to act like an adult now if you want to.Bob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

We were unable to resolve it because we couldn't duplicate it as we explained. There are no gaps preceeding or following, the loops are seamless. Not all cards work exactly the same. There ARE some cards and driver combinations that do render one-off aberrations. I'll continue to look for a solution but this is an isolated report.I suggest you continue to monitor our support forum where the concentration of users of this product is highest - and where broader user feedback might be of benefit to us all......Regards,http://www.fsd-international.com/team/Steve_signature.gif
