which processor should i get

Featured Replies

I'm in the process of getting a new pc and i'm not sure which processor to get for it so i thought i'd get some opinions from folks who probably know more about this sort of thing than i do!The choices are: Intel

Have to ask - why do you only have the choice of Intel processors?Gary

thinking of getting the Dell XPS600 and only have the choice of Intel processors in the spec.

Save yourself some money and get a PC that is built using quality named parts from a vendor such as:Monarch Computer. (www.monarchcomputer.com)They will build it, test it and ship it to you all with whatever warrenty options you would like. Then you can have AMD A64!!! (with a quality MB, you will be able to overclock as well if you so wish)

looks like a good site but i'm in the UK so i'm sure shipping costs would be pretty high and i don't want to start thinking about the costs involved if it's a return to base warranty! :-lol

Hmmm,There must be someone better than Dell in the UK?

I would have to agree that you should have someone build the system for you. You will save money and you will be much happier with your system. I am sure there is a reputable computer store in your area that can order the hardware and put it all together for you. I promise you, you will be much more satisfied in the long run. If Dell's policies are anything like Gateway's, you can run in to some problems. Forget upgrading after you purchase - even if they say it is fully upgradable. If you open the case, you nullify the warranty. Find out if you can personally add another video card without nullifying the warranty. Chances are, you will have to send it back to them or take it to an authorized service center. To me, that is a major pain to have to send it in to install something as easy as a videocard. If something goes bad, you are SOL. Many of these systems have components that are only intended to work together - power supplies only fit in the Dell case and can not be replaced with out replacing the whole case and so on.Also, they are going to put a lot of software on your rig that you really don't want. If Norton is part of the software bundle, good luck getting rid of it.Most people that make computers never intended them to be geared towards flight sim and most people are surprised when you tell them how powerful/clean they have to be to get the optimum results. You have to take control of the situation and tell someone exactly what you want and exactly what you don't want. Dell, HP, Gateway, Compaq can't do this. Ideally, you should assemble everything yourself but that is generally to complicated for the average person. I know it is too complicated for me.Post you city and I am sure someone can recommend a computer store in you area.

In the UK there is a company called Mesh Computers which has a great reputation. I personally know at least 7 flightsimmers who have bought their (AMD) PC's from them and none of them actually live in the UK!!http://www.meshcomputers.com/You can buy a pre-built machine or design your own spec and they will build it for you.For gaming and future upgrading Dell is absolutely not the way to go.P

I am waiting for the Intel Conroe chip. Due in a couple of months and allegedly much faster than the FX60.
