May 21, 200620 yr Since I upgraded to the nvidia 81.98 drivers for my 6800GT card I have been getting display anomalies usually, but not always, associated with mouse clicks. What happens is that the area of the screen below the mouse clicks reverts to a previous view - see attachment. The anomaly only happens in windowed mode and disappears after a few seconds but comes back after another mouse click. Yesterday I upgraded to the 84.21 drivers and for a time the problem seemed to be licked but has reoccurred except that now the anomaly sticks. I can reset the display by going into fullscreen mode then back to windowed mode and everything is OK for 10 mins or so before the same thing happens again. Grateful for any suggestionsBruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. May 21, 200620 yr It's a tooltip anomaly with FS graphics. You can either turn off tooltips in FS or find a driver that doesn't exhibit the issue. A driver I have found that works OK in this regard is 84.30.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
May 22, 200620 yr Author Thanks, I will give the 84.30 drivers a try.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
May 23, 200620 yr Author Sorry no luck with the 84.30 drivers - this anomaly is still there. Any other clues apart from turning off tooltips?Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. May 23, 200620 yr I get the problem with my 7600GT too. It goes away completely if AA is disabled - but that is no solution.Unfortunately I am unable to go back to earlier drivers as the 7600GT only supports the current ones.Others that I know of that have had the problem have gone back to 70 series drivers for a resolution (pun!).
May 23, 200620 yr Author Thanks. Yes this hassle only started when I moved from the 70 to the 80 series - looks like I may have to roll back. Perhaps one day nvidia will produce drivers that fix old bugs without introducing new ones!Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
May 29, 200620 yr Author Well the roll back doesn't seemed to have fixed this problem so I am a little puzzled as I don't recall this being an issue until I upgraded to the 80 series drivers. Only solution is to turn off tool tips but even this is just a partial fix as you still get the same anomaly when you move windowed displays from a second monitor to the primary monitor - see attachment.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
May 29, 200620 yr This can also be caused when you don't `clean` the old drivers properly before installing the new. Did you just install the new drivers over the old? If so, then I'd recommend reinstalling them, after using Driver Cleaner Pro to remove all traces of previous driver versions. Allcott
May 30, 200620 yr Author I always follow the recommended instructions: ie delete old drivers using add/remove, reboot into safe mode and run driver cleaner pro, reboot and install new drivers. July 18, 200619 yr I've just had the same thing happen to me going from 77.77 to 91.33 on my 6800GT. Like others, running driver cleaner pro made absolutely no difference. I also rolled back to the earlier driver, and again the problem was still there. (Of course, it wasn't there before I started!) I'd previously updated from whatever came on the CD to 77.77 with no problem. I've never had (far as I'm aware) the "black aircraft preview panel" problem.I run in windowed mode, because with a 1280x1024 LCD panel, full screen gives me a distorted panel. Although the root cause may be something to do with tooltips, it happens wherever the mouse happens to be - move the mouse up or down and the 'overlaid' bitmap expands/contracts with it - just like a window blind. It also happens wherever there is an overlaid window, such as a Squawkbox chat window (see screenshot) I can't help thinking that some setting somewhere has been 'flipped' by the driver install, causing it to display this (buffer memory?) Question is, what? and can it be unflipped?I guess the moral of this is: if it ain't broke, don't fix it! :-(
July 23, 200619 yr I too have that exact same problem, it happened with my 6800gt and now my 7900gt, it is so frustrating, hope there will be a fix to this.Paul.
July 23, 200619 yr I experiancing the same thing with my 6800 GT. I'm using the 91.31 driver and all was fine when I installed them back in June. As of yesterday my panel is in 2D windowed mode, Popup windows start acting weird when I use my mouse to move them. Then my main panel start disappearing and reappearring.
