How will THIS machine do???

Featured Replies

Will do nicely, wouldnt expect any problems with it, BUT (yes theres a but coming)that vidcard wont render DX10 in fsx, it will do fine in all parts of fs9 and will render DX9 in fsx,It WILL run fsx, but to get the max out of X you'll have to wait until the nextGen cards hit the streets. The only things that seems to be missing in your specs is a PSU. Make sure you get a good quality brand PSU, at least 500watt since the vidcard alone consumes quite a bit of juice.

Hey Johan,Well with that PSU you should be ok. Well the cards are going to be all new, so best to wait a few months (at least thats what i did when the new Nvidia 7 series came out), so it gives the cards as well as DX10 software and FSX time to mature. And yeah they should fit just fine as PCIe should be/is the standard by now and no indications have been around that the slot version should change on the new cards.

Capt., it may be more cost effective to settle for a lesser video card for now; maybe 7600/7800, and spend the difference on a second hard-drive...that 74gig will soon fill up! Keep on saving your pennies until the DX10 cards come out; give them a month or two to settle down and get some issues sorted out, THEN upgrade to one...A 7600/7800 will perform well as a good 'temporary' card... :)

Most definatly a great card, and BFG offers the imo BEST support, sofar most my cards have been BFG and support has always been top when needed.==>BUT: BEFORE BUYING CHECK WITH ASUS IF IT DOES SUPPORT THE 7950, SOME Asus 975 BOARDS DONT LIKE IT, WHILST THE INTEL BASED 975 DO<==

Why would you want Mirrored SATA? Instead of SATA 0 for Flight sim?Manny

Exactly. For some reason, some people seem to think that with DX10, graphics cards are suddenly going to leap in power 10 fold. I think ATI and nVidia have always been doing their best get the fastest card they can out. Having a new programming interface available to them with some new feature requests doesn't suddenly unleash them in what they are able to produce. There is no best time to buy a new system, there is always something better n months away. Get the best you can afford when the time is right for you and enjoy it.Life is too short to be constantly waiting. And remember, that new system is going to run FS9 very well and FS9 hasn't suddenly died just because FSX is around the corner...

>>Manny, could you tell me the difference?>>thanxSATA 0 means... It would use Two Disks and write across both the disks.. So in effect, the R/W is theoratically twice the speed. SATA 1 means... It would use two disks but writes the same thing in disk two mirroring. SATA 1 is good for information where you are basically having a backup if anything goes wrong with one sector of a disk, the system can read from the mirrir and make a correction. This is important for Database type application. But for games and sims... SATA 0 is the way to go. Yes..if 1 disk fails its as good as both disks failing. Cause the Two HD drive becomes like 1 large drive. So what?Manny
